Obit Isabel Frances Spindler

Isabel Frances (Spindler) Moore passed away at Parkland at the Gardens in Halifax on September 25, 2021, surrounded by her beloved family. Isabel was born in Lunenburg on October 24, 1917, a daughter of the late Captain Willett and Loretta (Conrad) Spindler.

Following her graduation from Lunenburg Academy, Isabel became a legal secretary. Then, as a new bride, she supported her husband, Bill, as he completed his university studies at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Bill and Isabel then moved to New Glasgow to raise their children.

In her later years, Isabel travelled with friends in Canada and abroad. Isabel loved music and rarely missed a concert in Pictou County. Knitting for the Aberdeen Hospital Auxiliary kept her fingers nimble while her heart and legs were kept strong at the New Glasgow YMCA and later at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.

In her eighties, Isabel took up vegetable gardening, and was delighted to deliver freshly ripened tomatoes and jars of pickles to her neighbours.

Six years ago, when a stroke made living on her own impossible, Isabel moved to Parkland at the Gardens in Halifax to be near her family. With incredible determination and daily care and therapy, Isabel was walking less than two months later. At Parkland, Isabel enjoyed daily exercise classes, musical entertainment and cheerful banter with the 3rd floor staff, all helping her to enjoy her time there.

Isabel was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, Isabel was predeceased by her husband, Bill; daughter, Joan; brother, Fred (Isabel Olsen); sister, Marie (Captain Jim) Himmelman; and sister-in-law, Kathleen (Harold) Condon. She is survived by daughter, Marcia (Wentworth) Anderson; son, Joe (Karen Henderson); and the joy of her life, her much loved granddaughter and best friend, Christine Moore, as well as several nieces and nephews.

There will be a family service and interment at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Isabel's memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Nature Trust (81 Prince Albert Road, Dartmouth, B2Y 1M1) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia (5657 Spring Garden Road, Halifax, B3J 3R4).
