- CUSHING - Jeanne T. Creighton passed away peacefully at Windward Gardens surrounded by her family on January 29, 2005. She had been in declining health the past two months. A descendant of several pioneer families, Mrs. Creighton was born May 29, 1923 in Walla Walla, Washington, the daughter of Howard Rees and Imogene King Turner. She graduated from Walla Walla High School and attended Whitman College. She continued her education at the University of Maine at Orono. In 2001 Mrs. Creighton attended her 60th High School Class Reunion in Walla Walla.
Following World War II, she married William T. Smith, Jr. and moved to Maine where she made her home the past sixty years. Mr. Smith died in an auto accident in September of 1962. November 3, 1966 she married Franklin William Creighton. She nurtured her State of Washington roots, made evident in the home she and Mr. Creighton built, a chalet that reminded her of the mountains she loved.
From the early to mid-1960s, she worked as an accountant.
Mrs. Creighton later earned teachers certification at the University of Maine at Orono. She later taught grade school in Castine and assisted her husband, Commander Creighton, while he taught engineering at Maine Maritime Academy.
Pre-deceased by a sister Nancy Jane Turner in 2001, Mrs. Creighton is survived by her husband of 38 years, Bill Creighton of Cushing; one daughter, Pam Feyler and her husband, Gary of Thomaston; two step-daughters, June Moraros and her husband Martin of Scarborough, Carol Worster and her husband Allen of Winterport; one step-son, Eric Creighton and his companion, Phillip Walton of Bangor; two granddaughters, Amy Gartley and her husband Carl of South China, Holly Jeanne Feyler of Fairfax, VA; one step-grandson, Corey Worster; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Jared Gartley of South China; and brother-in-law Everett A. Creighton and his wife, Marlene.
Interment at Village Cemetery, Thoamston, will be in the spring. (Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins on-line)
