- Marie Esther Winchenbaugh Studley, 80, long time Rockland resident, died Sunday, September 28, 2003 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, Rockport.
Born in Friendship, March 8, 1923, she was the daughter of Francis D. and Nellie Murphy Winchenbaugh.
She attended school in Friendship and graduated from Rockland High School with the Class of 1941.
On July 14, 1941, she married Vernon Studley in Friendship. The couple raised three children.
Mrs. Studley worked at the Drive-in Theater in Rockport. She later worked as an Associate at Rockland's Mammoth Mart, Kings and Ames for 16 years.
Active many years in all phases of Girl Scouting, she was honored this year with a 60 year pin from the Girl Scouts. Mrs. Studley volunteered many hours at the Knox Center for Long Term Care.
An avid collector, her collections included spoons, glass figurines, Norman Rockwell prints and dishes, pencils, mugs, and lighthouse memorabilia. She liked to sew and enjoyed house plants and flower gardening.
Mrs. Studley was pre-deceased by her husband in 2000; three sisters, Grace Williams, Arlene Schultz, Joan Harlow; one brother, Francis E. Winchenbaugh.
She is survived by two daughters, Verna Marie Bramhall and her husband Roger of Friendship, Linda D. Woodman and her husband Carl of Owls Head; one son, Tirrell "Terry" Studley and his wife Debra of Veazie; two sisters, Alma Black of Friendship, Ava Phillips and her husband James of Damariscotta; six grandchildren, Susan Simmons and her husband Virgil, Philip Bramhall and his wife Susan, Scott Bramhall and his wife Amy all of Friendship; Dawn Watkinson and her husband Christy, Jeffrey Woodman and his wife Christina all of Owls Head; Tara Studley of Veazie; eight great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday afternoon, October 2nd at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. The Reverend Harold Carpenter will officiate. Interment will follow at Harbor View Cemetery, Friendship.
