She was a daughter of J. Amyntas and Fidelia (Hilt) Gushee, married while still a young girl to George A. Ames. Five children were bom of this union, four of whom are still living. Mrs. Ames was bom and has always lived in Appleton. and for many years had been a frequent contributor to The Courier Gazette both in news items and poems. After the death of her husband 11 years ago, the son Edward carried on the farm work until two years ago, when he married and went to Columbus, Ohio to make his home. Since that time she had stayed on the home farm with hired help. The surviving children were all present at the funeral services which were held at the Baptist Church, Rev. H. Nutter officiating. Mrs. Ames\' four nephews acted as bearers. She was buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery. The surviving children, Alvah E. Ames, Union, Lulie, wife of Capt. Walter S. Hill, Ludlow, Mass., Edward S., Columbus, Ohio and Richard J. of Springfield, Mass. The abundance of flowers were very beautiful, coming from friends and relatives and the companies for which the boys work. | ||||

He conducted an implement business for several years and was afterward employed in a dry good store by S N Drew and Company. On August 5 1889 he formed a partnership in the mercantile business with George W West, under the firm name of West and Gushee, which continued until July 1907, when it was dissolved by mutual consent both members retiring from business in Osceola. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church having united May 10, 1903, and at the time of his death was chairman of the board of trustees. He served as treasurer of the board at the time of the building of the new church. He was a member of the IOOF, and the Tribe of Ben Hur, serving in the capacity of Scribe. During the years of World War II, she lived with her family in South Portland where she attended local schools. They later moved to Warren, where she continued her education. On January 1, 1952, she married Philip M. Pease in Warren. Mrs. Pease enjoyed celebrating her 50th anniversary with her husband this past January. The first nine years of their marriage, the couple lived in Portland where Mrs. Pease worked as a Nurses Aid at Maine Medical Center. For the following 3 years, they lived in California where she was employed as an operator with the Pacific Telephone Company. From California the, Pease\' moved to West Rockport, where they resided 13 years before moving to Port St. Lucie, Florida in 1980. While residing in Florida, Mrs. Pease completed training as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Returning to Maine 3 years later, they lived in St. George a brief time before building their home here, where they have lived the past 15 years. Mrs. Pease worked 17 years with ASK Home Health Care, primarily at their Cushing Homestead facility. Throughout their married life, Mrs. Pease has been an active participant in her husband\'s business, Phil Pease for Painting, as bookkeeper. Pre-deceased by two sons, Dana Mark in 1958, David in 2000 and a sister Sarah Butler in 1996, Mrs. Pease is survived by her husband of Union; her son Bruce K. and his wife Tiffany of Vancouver, Washington; her daughter Katrina Oakes and her husband Timothy of Appleton; a sister Mildred H. Herr, 93, passed away on Sunday, October 21st, 2012 at Willow Valley of Willow Street, where he had resided for the past 23 years. He was the husband of Nettie Edelman Chalson Herr and his first wife, the late Marjorie (Gusshee) Herr, who passed away in 1990. Lester was the first born of a family of seven to Noah S. and Zelva Carlin Herr on his grandfather Carlin\'s farm, five miles south of Parkesburg, PA. He attended a one-room eight-grade rural elementary school, Coatesville High School and graduated from West Chester University in 1940 with a BS degree in Secondary Education. His first teaching position was in a high school at Pt. Pleasant Beach, N.J. where he taught classes in science, math and instrumental music. He also directed the school band. He was drafted into the Army in 1942 and was assigned to the training cadre for new recruits in the infantry. Later he was selected for the Army Specialized Training Program and sent to Ohio State University for a year\'s study in civil engineering. He was discharged from the combat engineers in 1944 because of a training injury. He then returned to his teaching position in N.J. and earned his permanent teaching certificate. Wishing to pursue his civil engineering he returned to Ohio State and received an instructorship in the College of Engineering to teach theoretical and applied mechanics while earning BS and MS degrees in civil engineering. After taking a written Federal examination, he was selected fro a position as a bridge engineer in the Pacific Northwest where he was assigned to construction. Shortly, because of his training in hydraulics, he became involved in problems dealing with highway drainage and floods. In 1959 he was transferred to Washington Headquarters to establish the Hydrological and Hydraulics Branch of the Bridge Division. He is survived, in addition to his wife, by two children Dana Herr of Springfield, VA and Melissa Herr of Annandale, VA and four siblings; Elizabeth Horrex of Oxford, John Herr of Avondale, Mary Weiser of Coatesville and Allen Herr of Christiana. He was preceded in death by two siblings; Charles Herr and Elizabeth Kuhn. Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 10:30 am from the Auditorium, 300 Willow Valley Lakes Drive, Willow Street, PA. Interment will be private. | 178 | I42646 | 1839 | 22 Apr 1924 | Ambrose Hoch, a life-long resident of this place passed away Tuesday morning after a brief illness. Mr. Hoch was in his 86th year. Lincoln County News: April 24th, 1924. Although Ambrose Hoch made his home at Winslow's Mills he was well known in Waldoboro and the people here were sorry to hear of his death April 22. Mr. Hoch was a member of Charles Keizer Post, G.A.R. and will be greatly missed in Memorial Day as he was always present to take part in the parade and exercise. He held as excelant military record having served in the civil are from October 13, 1862 until July 26, 1865. He was assigned with Co. A 21st Maine Regiment to the army of Gen. Banks in Louisiana where he was wounded in the Seige of Port Hudson. After being six weeks in the hospital on account of his wound he was discharged with his regiment but immediately reenhsted with the First Sharp-hooters, transfered to 20th Me. where he remained until the close of the war. Mr. Hoch was eighty-four years of age and survived his wife by thirteen years. He leaves two sons, the last service were held Friday at the Winslow\'s Mills Chapel. Rev. O.G. Barnard officiating as clergyman. The Flag-draped casket was as a guard of honor six of his old comrades and several veterans of the World War. The services were impressive and fitting to honor one that had served his country so well. The burial was in the Rural Cemetery in Waldoboro. Lincoln County News: May 1st, 1924. | ||||

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday from the Hall Funeral Home with Rev. Gordon Parlin officiating. Interment will be at the Rural Cemetery, Waldoboro. Elmer R. He attended North Park College Academy Theological Seminary and Music School while in high school, later Montana State University in Missoula, MT, the University of London, and he graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, in 1956 after recuperating from polio. Holly worked sales for various retail companies in Chicago prior to being a stock broker, and culminating in construction of starter homes, and building and management of rental properties in Belgrade, MT. He enjoyed finance, skiing, hunting and socializing with friends and family. Holly loved to talk about his youth experiences, i.e. spending the night in jail in Jacksonville, FL, at the ripe old age of 13, and in his late teens arriving at the La Scala Opera House in Milan, Italy, whereupon his front bumper fell off his car just to impress the hoity-toity folks of Milan, and last but not least, countless stories about his dogs. He married Beatrice Jean Lampadius on July 18, 1959, in Woodstock, IL, and they had two children, William and Katherine. Holly is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beatrice “Bitsy”; son, William (Julie Perkins) Hollensteiner of Kent, WA; brother, James Hollensteiner of Chicago, IL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Katherine Hollensteiner. He was born on June 27, 1952, in Woodlawn. Lloyd attended Portland schools. He was a great man, a great dad, Bumpa, and friend. Lloyd loved bowling and was once on a bowling league. His biggest quality was his humor. He was a natural born comedian always making jokes and making people laugh and smile. He had a big heart filled with love. He loved life and was such a strong man. Mr. Johnson was predeceased by his mother, Eva Yankowsky (Dumont), his father, Raymond C. Johnson; two brothers, Melvin J. and Dick J., and one sister, Odessa Valley. He is survived by his only daughter, Tammy Harvison (Johnson), who was also his caretaker; his three grandchildren, Brittany Weston, Kiara Alexander, and Jacob Harvison, who he loved so much; his stepfather, Oscar Y.; brothers, Michael Y. and Gerald J., sisters, Carol H., Linda Y., Elaine, Esther, May and June; and his ex-wife, Donna Greene who he remained friends with for years. Lloyd had a one in a million laugh that sounded like a chipmunk. His famous quote was \'strangers in the night!\' He will be greatly missed, as he was one in a million. We love you. Lloyd D. She was the third of the five \"Keene Girls\" who all grew up in Bremen, Maine. She graduated from Lincoln Academy in Newcastle, Maine in 1958. Ruth worked briefly at Round Top Ice Cream in Damariscotta and then was employed at G.T.E. Sylvania for approximately 11 years. She later worked as a family service coordinator for the Waldoboro Head Start program and thoroughly enjoyed working with children. She retired from Pen Bay Medical Center as a Mental Health Worker in the PARC unit in 2004. Ruth fully enjoyed her retirement and pursued her love of her grandchildren, family, arts and crafts, home decorating, gardening, reading, writing and counted cross stitch with a passion. She was a talented artist/craftsperson and a remarkable writer who generously shared this gift with close family and friends. She always was a mother to her children but also to others outside the immediate family. She opened her heart and home to any in need. She was a genuinely loving soul who will be sorely missed by family and friends. Ruth is predeceased by a daughter Eleanor Jean Hoffses; her parents; sisters, Mary Glaude and Katherine Simmons; and by a granddaughter Elizabeth Hoffses. She is survived by her daughter Gina Hoffses and partner Elizabeth Foley of Waldoboro; sons Jerome Hoffses, Jr. of Waldoboro, and Scott Hoffses and partner Lincoln Millett of Windham; sisters Brenda Simmons of Waldoboro and Susan Hammond of Wiscasset; grandchildren Ashley Nelson and husband Mike of Rockland, Travis Hoffses of Waldoboro, Autumn Hoffses of St. George, Haley Hoffses and Karl Hoffses both of Waldoboro A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Ruth\'s life.
