Waterloo Daily Courier (Waterloo, IA), 23 Jan 1895, page 4 —Monday morning, at Davenport, Geo. Peters, aged 33 years, hung himself in his blacksmith shop. He had been showing evidence of a nervous disorder for some time, but it is supposed that the immediate cause of his act was the self murder of his friend Louis Feid, Sunday. Feid was 60 years of age, with a family. He had been in ill health and had been worried by smaller matters, and Friday he was notified that his accounts with the Masonic lodge, of which he was treasurer, were to be checked over. He had used about $200 of money thus collected, intending in a few days to replace it with money lately devised to him by an uncle, but this bequest did not come as soon as expected, and conceiving that he would be disgraced, he arranged matters so that the lodge was perfectly secured and then shot himself. Feid was a former city marshal, deputy sheriff, and prominent Republican.
