- BUTTIMER, Beverly June -- Born in San Francisco on April 5, 1926 and passed away in Walnut Creek on November 2, 2000. She grew up living both on the Hawaiian islands of Maui and Oahu, her father's homeland, and in San Francisco. A high school student living in Pearl City, Oahu, she moved permanently to San Francisco immediately following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. An avid tennis player, the game heavily influenced her life. Through tennis, she met her husband Harry R. Buttimer, Jr., and lifelong friend, Beth Boyle. They and many others spent countless happy days at the Golden Gate Park tennis courts. Harry's passion for tennis took them on a yearlong sabbatical to Europe. This adventure sparked Beverly's lifelong love and pursuit of travel. Beverly is survived by her three children, Sharon Lee Hallgrimson of Santa Guiliano, Italy, Jennifer Ann Buttimer of San Francisco, and Scott William Buttimer of Indianapolis; her grandson Erik Lee Hallgrimson of Los Gatos, and Nick Scharf, Jennifer's husband. At her request, there will be no services. Beverly's remains will be returned to the lao Valley in Maui, the site of happy childhood memories. The family welcomes hearing from Beverly's friends and can be contacted through Jennifer.
