- In Loving Memory of Helen (Voss) Buehl
1929-2018
Helen L. Buehl, 89 of Louisville, KY and formerly of Beloit, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 after a long illness.
She was born on July 17, 1929, in Steele, N.D., the daughter of Fritz and Stella (Hoth) Voss. Helen married Herbert Vincent Buehl on September 3, 1949 in St. Paul Lutheran Church Beloit. Helen's infectious smile and positive attitude made everyone who came into her presence feel welcome and comfortable.
In 1947, she became secretary for the Superintendent of Beloit Public Schools, Joseph Rhodes. Later, she served as secretary for the Beloit College Music Department and Our Savior's Lutheran Church,
While living in Beloit, Helen was a member of Treble Clef, Masterwork Chorus and had a radio program on WBEL with her mother. She sang on a soap commercial for a local television station, sang and played for many weddings and funerals. Helen sang in the opera "Amahl and the Night Visitors" and soloed with the Beloit/Janesville Symphony Orchestra. In the mid 1960's, Helen learned to play the pipe organ and in 1967, accepted the organist position with Our Savior's Lutheran Church and remained there for 30+ years. After retiring, Helen and Herb moved to Louisville, KY in 1999, where she continued as a substitute organist and sang in the church choir. She was a member of the American Guild of Organists.
Helen in survived by her daughter, Brenda (Ben) Harris; two sons, Thomm Buehl and David (Mary) Buehl; six grandchildren, Teri Lynn Collins, Randy (Michelle) Gray, Heather Buehl-Nastasi (Vincent), Seth Buehl, Della (Scott Sullivan) Buehl and Ethan Harris; six great-grandchildren; sister, Alice (Jack) Irwin, several godsons and daughter-in-law, Elaine.
She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert, son, John, infant daughter, Sheryl and a brother, Fredrick Voss.
Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2018, in our Savior's Lutheran Church, 749 Bluff Street, Beloit with Pastor Tony Dusso officiating. Inurnment will follow in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. before service in the church.
In lieu of floral tributes, the family requests that memorials be given to Hosparus of Louisville, 3532 Ephraim McDowell Dr., Louisville, KY 40205 and Our Savior's Lutheran Church Music Ministries.
