- ROCKLAND - Laura "Gram" Ranquist, 75, died Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, surrounded by her family after a long illness. Born in Rockland, July 11, 1933, she was the daughter of Wilbert L., Sr. and Louisa E. Peters Barter. She attended local schools.
On March 3, 1954, she married Elbert M. Ranquist in Rockport.
A lifelong Rockland resident, "Gram" considered herself a 'homebody', who enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Winslow-Holbrook-Merritt American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 1 of Rockland.
Predeceased by her husband Elbert M. Sr., brothers Donald Barter, Wilbur "Webb" Barter, Jr., a son-in-law Jerry Wilkins and a grandson Robert Nason; "Gram" is survived by two sons, Elbert 'Bud' Ranquist, Jr. of Rockland, Paul Ranquist and his wife Diane of Georgia; two daughters, Deborah Wilkins of Rockland, Jeanette Goodall of East Millinocket; sisters, Julia Tupper, Mildred Newbert both of Rockland, Sally Seymour and her husband Patrick of Connecticut; four grandchildren, Eli Ranquist, Austin Ranquist, Reed Ranquist, Melissa Ranquist, and four great-grandchildren, Brecklyn Nason, Miranda-Lee Nason, Justyce Nason, and Chase Nason as well as many nieces and nephews.
