- Barbara Ann (Paul) Lucas, 89, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014. She was the wife of the late Arthur J.H. Lucas, Sr., they had shared 68 years of marriage. Arthur recently passed away on October 8, 2014.
Born in Boston, MA, a daughter of the late George E.B. and Louise (Hoffses) Paul. She had graduated from Winthrop MA High School and also Somerville MA School of Nursing in 1946. She had enlisted in the Cadet Nursing Corps. serving at Camp Edwards and Cushing General Hospital until 1946.
Mrs. Lucas had worked as a registered nurse for 54 years from 1946 to 2000. She had worked for many years as a registered nurse in the field of Geriatrics at Mass Memorial Hospital. She had also worked for the Jewish Memorial Hospital in Boston, Clover Hill Hospital in Lawrence, MA, Elihu White Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Braintree, MA and also the Centerville Nursing Home in Centerville, MA.
Mrs. Lucas was a 65 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Massachusetts. She was a past Matron of the Reliance Chapter #62, O.E.S. of Massachusetts and a life member of the Braintree Chapter #88, O.E.S. of Massachusetts, member and ex-regent of Capt. Joshua Gray Chapter, Massachusetts Society, The Daughters of the American Revolution. A past State Organizing Secretary of the Massachusetts Society D.A.R., Ex-Regents Club and State Officers Club of Massachusetts D.A.R., member of the Sandwich Historical Society, Yarmouth Historical Society, Cape Cod Genealogical Society, Sandwich Senior Citizens Club, Sandwich Council on Aging Arts & Crafts Class.
She also served for several years as a volunteer at the Sandwich Health Department.
She is survived by 4 sons, Paul W. Lucas and his wife Jane of China, ME, Arthur J.H. Lucas, Jr., and his wife Joanne of Randolph, MA, Ronald T. Lucas and his wife Marie of Braintree, MA and Bruce T. Lucas and his wife Beth of Harwich, MA; grandchildren, Arthur J.H. Lucas, III, Geoffrey C. Lucas, Nicole M. Lucas, Zachary B. Lucas, Sarah V. Lucas, Abigail T. Lucas; great-grandchildren, John R. Lucas, Tyler C. Almeida, Robert S. Lucas, Rocco P. Lucas, Cameron Ahearn, Mason L. Almeida and Harlow J. Lucas. She was the sister of the late George E.B. Paul, Jr., David M. Paul, Charles A. Paul and Louise Hoffses (Paul) Cox.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Monday at 10 a.m. in the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne, MA. Visitation Sunday 3 - 6 p.m. Interment in Sandwich Town Cemetery.
