Noch in ihren Träumen blickte Marian den Hügel hinunter auf das Sägewerk, in dem ihr Mann so lange arbeitete. Aber nicht am Sonntag. Der Sonntag war der Tag für die Familie in Port Madison. Marian begann sich an Nathan und seinen Bruder Sanford zu erinnern, die beide in Maine geboren wurden, aber in ihren späten Teenagerjahren beschlossen hatten, ihr Glück anderswo zu suchen. * * * Nathan stürmte in das Haus der Familie Bucklin in der Sycamore Street in South Warren und sprang die Treppe zum Schlafzimmer seines Bruders hinauf. Mit seinen starken Beinen und seiner jugendlichen Energie war Nathan in der Lage, die Treppe zu dritt auf einmal zu nehmen. Sanford, der an seinem Schreibtisch saß und in den Roman "Der letzte Mohikaner" von James Fenimore Cooper vertieft war, erschrak, als sein Bruder durch die Tür stürmte. Sanford antwortete. »Wohin?« "Eigentlich bin ich mir nicht sicher, aber wir werden es wissen, wenn wir dort sind. Zuerst geht es nach Mittelamerika. Und dann, na ja, ich bin mir nicht sicher. Aber sieh, ich habe schon unsere Tickets", sagte Nathan. Es war der 2. März 1859. Und so begannen die beiden Brüder für ihr Abenteuer zu packen. Die Jungen brachen an diesem Samstag ab und segelten nach Süden, um das Schiff schließlich in Panama zu verlassen, um einen Zug über die Landenge zu nehmen. Von dort aus kombinierten die Jungen eine Dampferreise mit zwei anderen Segelreisen, um schließlich im Spätherbst 1859 in Kitsap County im Washington Territory anzukommen. Am Tag ihrer Ankunft wurden die beiden Bucklin-Jungen als Mühlenarbeiter im Sägewerk Seabeck angestellt. * * * Marian dachte an jenen Tag im Jahr 1865, an dem sie den Mann im roten Flanellhemd zum ersten Mal gesehen hatte. Marian war als Gast einer Freundin aus ihrer Schulzeit in San Francisco zum Puget Sound gesegelt. Ihr endgültiges Ziel war ein Ort namens Seabeck. Marian Stevens Campbell war gerade 19 Jahre alt und ihre Freundin die Tochter von William J. und Cassandra Adams aus San Francisco, Miteigentümern des Sägewerks Seabeck. Following his discharge in 1966, he served one year as a legislative sereant at arms with the Main e House of Representatives. He later attended the University of Maine at Orono, graduating with a degree in philosophy. Mr. Waltz and his wife celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on Sept. 28. He dug clams for two years and in 1977 received h is journeyman's electrical degree from the Kennebec Valley Vocational School. Three months later he received his master electrician's license and founded Broad Bay Electric. Mr. Waltz supported Amnesty International and the Good Shepherd Food Back . He was an active member of the West Bay Rotary Club in Camden and was recently honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. He also was a member of the Mid-Coast Home Builders Association, where he enjoyed promoting and presenting scholarships. Besides hi s wife of Waldoboro, Mr. Waltz is survived by a son, Aaron C. of Waldoboro; a daughter, Bethany L. Overlock of Warren; and a grandson, Jared M. Overlock of Warren. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Congregatio nal Church, Main Street, Warren. Carolyn, trained as a nurse, serving at Marcum Hospital in Longview, TX for 2 years, and later in Binghamton, NY. Her nursing skills served her well, raising a family of four and attending to the children and families of the churches they served in bush Alaska where doctors were seldom available. Carolyn married Dwayne W. King August 17, 1963 in Vestal, NY. She served alongside Dwayne in their many capacities as lifelong missionaries, living 7 years in Russia and various locations throughout Alaska. Her love and quiet strength were a constant support to her husband, her children, the wives of many missionaries and their church families. Carolyn's own ministry was the quiet support of missionary wives throughout the world through her writing. She loved music, the works of Thomas Kincaid and flowers of every kind. An avid reader, Carolyn enjoyed her quiet time, she loved time with her family and friends, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dwayne King, her brothers Richard Pfaff and Duane Merritt, her children David (Debbie) King, Jon (Krista) King, Becky (William) Sherman, Joel (LaReina) King, her beloved grandchildren, Briana, Jeremiah, Aurora, Canyon, Taiga, Renee and Ian, along with many other family members and friends. Services will be held at Victory Bible Camp in the main hall on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at 3pm. A reception will follow to visit with the family. | 139 | . In his earlier years, Wesley was proud to be a member of the Boy Scouts and Sea Scouts. He was always riding his bicycle and later he loved riding his motorcycles. For more than 30 years, he worked as a Cooker with Port Clyde Packing Company i n Rockland. Wesley served more than 30 years as a volunteer at Owls Head Transportation Museum. He was an avid camper and a life member of Beaver Lodge in Hope. He attended the Rockland Congregational Church. Since 2014, Wesley resided at the A nderson Inn at Quarry Hill in Camden, where he loved the staff and comradery of the other residents. He enjoyed a special longtime friendship with Alan Lowberg of South Hope and Lisa Payson of Owls Head. Wesley was pre-deceased by his parents. H e is survived by his brother Laurence E. Wildes and his wife Johanna of Rockland; his oldest sister Cathy Davis of Washington and his twin-sister Wanda Collamore of Waldoboro; several aunts and uncles including Norman Wildes who grew up with Wesle y’s family, and whom Wesley considered as a father figure; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; 3 great-great nephews; one great-great niece, as well as several cousins. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, Octobe r 15, 2020, at the Village Cemetery, Avenue 9, Thomaston. The Rev. Abee Pettee will officiate. Social distancing and wearing of face coverings is suggested. Should seating be required, it is recommended that attendees consider bringing their own s eating.
