    Everett Sanford Winchenbach, 84, of Waldoboro, died Jan. 26 at his home.

    He was born Sept. 18, 1915 in Waldoboro, the son of Fred and Lorna Staples Winchenbach. He was a 1932 graduate of the Old Waldoboro High School. After graduation he worked at the Tar Gang, Samples Ship Yard, Boothbay Harbor, and the Waldoboro Ford garage.

    In 1942 he enlisted in the Army, serving in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. For 24 months he drove a truck with the 45th Evacuation Hospital in the European Theatre. He was awarded the Good Conduct and Victory Medals, and European African Middle Eastern and American Theater Campaign Ribbons.

    In 1949 he married Ruth McLellan. They have made their home in Dutch Neck for the past 50 years. He worked for Keith Winchenbach’s hardware store and for Storer Lumber from 1965 until he retired in 1991.

    Every year Everett marched in the Waldoboro Memorial Day Parade, proud to be wearing his original uniform. He was a big supporter of Medomak Valley sports, attending all the home games.

    Everett was an active selectman. He was a member of the King Solomon Lodge #61; Lifetime member of the VFW Soule/Shuman Post #4525; American Legion, Charles C. Lily Post #149; Past Master Meenahga Grange #555; and Seventh Degree member of the State Pomona Grange.

    He was a member of the German Meeting House Church Society and the Methodist Church in Waldoboro, and St. Paul’s Church Society in Dutch Neck.

    He was predeceased by his daughter, Rosemarie Winchenbach.

    Everett is survived by his wife of 50 years; sons Sanford of Waldoboro and Aaron of Beacon Falls, Conn.; daughters Jessica Sprowl and husband Larry of Chesapeake, Va. and Katrina Winchenbach of Portland; brother Russell of Yarmouth; grandson Derek Gifford of Waldoboro; grandchildren Amanda, Hannah and Ethan Thorndike of Chesapeake, Va., and Maggie Zall of Portland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

    Visiting hours: Jan. 30, 6-8 p.m., Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Grange service: Jan. 30 at Hall’s. Funeral: Jan. 31, 1 p.m., United Methodist Church, Friendship Rd., Waldoboro, Rev. Robert Dorr officiating. Burial: In the spring.
