Buyse, L. John Age 85, of Anoka. John entered God's presence on October 13, 2010 at his home in Anoka, MN. He was born in the Belgian Congo on August 13, 1925. His parents, Daphne Thompson Buyse and Leonard Jan Buyse were pioneer missionaries serving with Africa Inland Mission. At the age of 13, he came to the USA for school and graduated from Mankato High School in 1944. In the summer of 1944, he entered the Navy and was stationed in the South Pacific serving on a PT boat. After the Navy, he attended Wheaton College in Illinois where he met Marjorie Ann Look, the daughter of Dr. & Mrs. O.A. Look of Anoka, MN. They were married in 1950 at the First Baptist Church of Anoka. The Lord blessed them with five children, Susan, Jane, Cynthia, John and David. L. John spent the first half of his business career at The Cornelius Company rising to the level of Executive Vice President with responsibilities for North American and European operations. At age 50 he started his own company - McLean Midwest - which became the clear market leader in North America and is one of the top three global companies for cooling electronics. Selling the business and retiring at age 65 opened up new opportunities for John. He completely invested himself in works of service - sitting on the board of directors for six mission organizations, while chairing three of those boards. Some of the organizations he served were Africa Inland Mission (NY), Global Outreach (Canada), Lighthouse for Christ Eye Mission (Kenya), Marie Sandvik Center (Mpls) and Northwestern College (St. Paul). His love and commitment to the Lord and His Kingdom were further demonstrated in his service at the First Baptist Church of Anoka where he was a member for 59 years, directing the choir for 31 of those years. He served on the Board of Trustees chairing two building programs. Besides these mission organizations, he was also a member of both the Anoka School Board and Board of Directors for the Anoka Chamber of Commerce. John was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard & Daphne Buyse and a grandson, Christian John Nitz. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 5 children, 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. John's favorite scripture, Proverbs 3:5,6, describes the life he lived and the example he set for his family: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path." Visitation will be held at Thurston- Lindberg Funeral Home, 2005 Branch Ave., Anoka on Friday, Oct. 29, 2010 from 5-8 PM. The funeral will be held on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010 at 10 AM at the First Baptist Church, 1235 Park St., Anoka, MN. Interment will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery, Anoka, MN. Paul was born on August 26, 1926 at the Aba mission station in northern Belgian Congo. His parents, Leonard and Daphne Buyse were missionaries with Africa Inland Mission (AIM) in the Belgian Congo at the time. He had two older siblings; a sister named Helen Jean and a brother named John. He also had two younger siblings; a brother named Robert and a sister named Marian.

During his childhood in Belgian Congo, Paul and the family lived on mission stations at Kasengu, Blukwa and Rethy. He attended grade school at Rethy Academy. He started high school at the Westervelt Home in Columbia, South Carolina and eventually graduated from Garden City High School in Garden City, Minnesota in 1945. He started his college classes at Northwestern Bible College in St. Paul, Minnesota then he transferred to Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois and graduated in 1948.

Paul met Katherine Louco from Camden, New Jersey while attending Moody and they were married shortly after Paul graduated from Moody. They had four children; three boys and a girl. Tim the oldest was born in 1949 in Harrison, Arkansas. The other three children were born in the Belgian Congo. Janie was born in 1955 at Oicha, went to heaven in 1956 and is buried at Oicha. Larry was born in 1956 at Oicha. Philip was born in 1960 at Rethy.

Upon graduation from Moody, Paul and Katherine worked with the North Arkansas Gospel Mission in north central Arkansas for about two years. They joined AIM towards the end of that time. They moved to Minnesota in 1950 to start raising support and preparing to go to Africa. Paul served as the pastor of a church in Garden City, Minnesota during that year.

They left for Africa to serve with AIM in the Belgian Congo in 1952. They worked in Africa for the next thirty seven years serving the Lord at the small remote stations at Biasiko and Lalia, intermediate size stations at Mwenda and Blukwa, the large stations at Oicha and Rethy as well as a short time at Kijabi, Kenya during one of the evacuations from the newly independent Congo.

Paul went to Africa to be a preacher and an evangelist which he loved doing and was committed to doing. It was also soon apparent that he had other useful talents. One of his talents was the ability to build things. He was asked to build in excess of thirty construction projects from as far south as Biasiko to a village north of Rethy and even at Kijabi. Projects ranged in scope and size from infrastructures like bridges, water systems and electric plants to churches, schools, dispensaries and houses for both African co-workers as well as missionaries. Another of his talents was his ability to make eye glasses to help people see. He was able to train several African personnel in optometry. Together they set up three permanent eye clinics and a mobile eye clinic. Working as a team they were able help thousands of people see better. That work is still bearing fruit to this day.

Paul & Katherine retired from working in Africa in 1989. Paul spent the next four years working in the accounting office at the AIM headquarters in Pearl River, New York. They moved in 1992 to the AIM retirement center in Minneola, Florida. Even though he was retired, Paul served as chaplain on the campus for the next ten years.

Paul’s suffering with congestive heart failure began about 2012 and slowly sapped away his energy and his mind until God called home on June 7, 2017.

He is survived by Katherine, his brother Robert, his sister Marian Botha, his three sons Timothy (Cynthia), Larry (Mimi) and Philip (Susan), nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The family requests no flowers be sent.

A “Paul A. Buyse” memorial fund will be set up at AIM and will be designated to help the people of Congo.

On a crisp clear winter day, this beautiful Wife, Mother and Friend of many was welcomed into Heaven by God. Minnie was the youngest of 4 children born to Grace and Ray Campbell, and was the last to be called home on December 1, 2016. She was preceded in death by her 3 brothers, Glen, Donald and Melvin. Minnie was born on December 27, 1931 on the family farm in Lake Crystal Minnesota. Although her father died when Minnie was just 2, her older brothers surrounded and protected her well into her teenage years. Minnie met her match in a husband when she was introduced to Air Force Lieutenant Robert J. Buyse in the spring of 1947. They slowly started dating over the years, and when Bob got his "Wings" in the Air Force, he made it his habit to let Minnie know when he was arriving by "Buzzing" the family farm in his F94-C jet at 200' above their farmhouse. Well, as you can imagine, the hired hands were not amused by Bob when he deployed the afterburners and they had to round up the many scattered livestock! The neighbors all knew when Buyse was coming to town. Minnie was enthralled with Bob, and they married in 1952. During these years, Minnie attended Northwestern University and pursued a degree in music and often could be heard singing in Trios on the radio in the late 40's early 50's. Minnie's sharp musical mind was later in life put to good work in their local church, Arcade Baptist in Sacramento. She was often called to fill in for the choir director at the last minute, and for over 17 years was the Director of Primary Choir for children at Arcade. Minnie also started two all-girl high school musical groups. Both the "Freeway Singers" and "The Treble Tones" produced albums under Minnie's direction. She and her husband Bob later toured each of these groups to the Hawaiian Islands where they sang at local churches and functions in Hawaii and California in the seventies. When Minnie wasn't busy playing the piano or directing, she could be found on the tennis court. That California tan didn't come easy! Daily sets of tennis were the norm with friends or family at the club near their home in Carmichael. Minnie and Bob loved playing tennis regularly and Minnie continued playing into her late 70's. Her greatest expertise though, was a pie maker. For all of you who have been lucky enough to taste one of her famous pies, you understand why. Minnie and Bob also loved to travel and their journeys over the years have taken them to the streets of Jerusalem where they walked in the steps of Christ, while also traveling by rail, boat and car to many other European destinations. In the later years, they traveled closer to home in the United States, where their all time favorite place was the condo in Palm Springs where they went every April, playing tennis and entertained their grandchildren. To all who knew Minnie, she was beloved. She was warm and accepting and encouraging to all. She was talented and inspirational, embracing all with a warm and friendly smile. She was loving, nurturing and most of all genuine. Her home was always a cheerful gathering place for family and friends. She loved the Lord and she served him all her life and was always sharing that love with others. She was a precious treasure to her family, friends and the joy and love of Bob her husband. Minnie leaves behind her husband of 64 years Robert J. Buyse, daughters Nancy (Butch) Corum, Debbie (Denny) Bilton and son, Brad (Troy) Buyse-Stauss, and her 3 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Sie heiratete Hans Botha 1956 in Wheaton. Sie zogen nach Südafrika und unterrichteten und pflegten in Swasiland, Südafrika und Namibia. Marian verbrachte den letzten Teil ihrer Karriere als Krankenpflegerin im Mercy Hospital in Carmichael, Kalifornien, bevor sie in den Ruhestand ging. Barbara wurde am 22. April 1947 in St. Charles, Illinois, als Tochter der Missionare Ralph und Helen Christensen geboren. Sie wuchs als ältestes von sechs Kindern in Johannesburg, Südafrika, auf. Sie zeichnete sich durch hervorragende akademische Leistungen aus. Barbara kehrte in die USA zurück, um das Wheaton College (IL) zu besuchen und erwarb anschließend einen MA in Schulberatung an der Seattle Pacific University.

Barbara liebte es, zu dienen. Sie engagierte sich ehrenamtlich in Kirchenchören, als Sonntagsschullehrerin und kümmerte sich besonders um ältere Menschen. Es machte ihr Spaß, gesunde Mahlzeiten zuzubereiten und ihr Zuhause so einzurichten, dass ihre fünf Kinder zum Nachforschen und Lernen einluden. Sie war eine talentierte Klavierspielerin und gab oft Klavierunterricht. Barbara ist wegen ihres warmen Lächelns, ihres sanften Auftretens und ihrer Großzügigkeit in bester Erinnerung. Sie hinterlässt ihren Ehemann (Art Walden aus Dalton, GA) und ihre Kinder (Leilani Hall, Estelle Lockhart und Rachel McCoy). Ihre Kinder T. Kristine Chandler und Jeremy Sylvester sind bereits verstorben.
