| 2582 | EVELYN M. NOYES 2010 RANDOLPH Evelyn M. Noyes, 97, formerly of Union and Randolph, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at Winthrop Manor. She was born in Warren, one of 10 children of Leolar and Hattie Mank. She was raised from age 6 by her sister, Marjorie, and Elroy Beverage, in Hope. Evelyn was a 1931 graduate of Camden High School and she attended Brighton & Straton Business College in Brighton, Mass. She was a member of the Oriental Chapter Eastern Star in Union, leader of Meadowview4H Club in Union, a member of the Knox County Extension Club a and a 69-year member of the Pioneer Grange in Union. Evelyn loved to garden, crochet and read. She was an avid Red Sox fan who watched games with one of her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching her game shows very much. Evelyn was married in 1937 to Cedric Noyes, her husband of 46 years, who passed away in 1983. She was also predeceased by her son, Richard Noyes; a granddaughter; a grandson; a great- brothers, , grandson; and a son-in-law, Jerry. She is survived by her two sons, Kenneth Noyes and his wife, Gwen, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Ralph Noyes and his wife, Cindy, of Mechanicville, Md.; two daughters, Voncelle Bean and her husband, Robert, of Brunswick, Ga., and Marjorie Nicholas, of Randolph; half-sister Louise Hasting, of Camden; half-brother Ernest Mank, of Camden; and a daughter-in-law, Shirley Noyes, of Searsmont; 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a cousin. Those who wish to do so may make a donation in her memory to the Winthrop Manor Activities Fund, c/o Kay Frost, 96 Route 133, Winthrop, ME 04364. | 2583 | Everett Sanford Winchenbach 2000-02-03 Everett Sanford Winchenbach, 84, of Waldoboro, died Jan. 26 at his home. He was born Sept. 18, 1915 in Waldoboro, the son of Fred and Lorna Staples Winchenbach. He was a 1932 graduate of the Old Waldoboro High School. After graduation he worked at the Tar Gang, Samples Ship Yard, Boothbay Harbor, and the Waldoboro Ford garage. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army, serving in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. For 24 months he drove a truck with the 45th Evacuation Hospital in the European Theatre. He was awarded the Good Conduct and Victory Medals, and European African Middle Eastern and American Theater Campaign Ribbons. In 1949 he married Ruth McLellan. They have made their home in Dutch Neck for the past 50 years. He worked for Keith Winchenbach’s hardware store and for Storer Lumber from 1965 until he retired in 1991. Every year Everett marched in the Waldoboro Memorial Day Parade, proud to be wearing his original uniform. He was a big supporter of Medomak Valley sports, attending all the home games. Everett was an active selectman. He was a member of the King Solomon Lodge #61; Lifetime member of the VFW Soule/Shuman Post #4525; American Legion, Charles C. Lily Post #149; Past Master Meenahga Grange #555; and Seventh Degree member of the State Pomona Grange. He was a member of the German Meeting House Church Society and the Methodist Church in Waldoboro, and St. Paul’s Church Society in Dutch Neck. He was predeceased by his daughter, Rosemarie Winchenbach. Everett is survived by his wife of 50 years; sons Sanford of Waldoboro and Aaron of Beacon Falls, Conn.; daughters Jessica Sprowl and husband Larry of Chesapeake, Va. and Katrina Winchenbach of Portland; brother Russell of Yarmouth; grandson Derek Gifford of Waldoboro; grandchildren Amanda, Hannah and Ethan Thorndike of Chesapeake, Va., and Maggie Zall of Portland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Aus der Familie Klengel spielten bis 1924 sieben Mitglieder im Leipziger Gewandhausorchester. Der Großvater war Geiger und lehrte am Konservatorium. Ausbildung Julius wurde wie seine sechs Geschwister zunächst vom Vater unterrichtet. Mit sieben Jahren begann er seinen Violoncello-Unterricht bei Emil Hegar. Er galt als talentiertes Wunderkind. Mit fünfzehn Jahren spielte er bereits im Gewandhausorchester und war schon bald ein gefragter Solist. Konzerte führten ihn durch ganz Deutschland und ab 1878 auch in das europäische Ausland. Tätigkeit Ab 1881 war er 1. Solocellist des Gewandhausorchesters Leipzig und zugleich Lehrer am Leipziger Konservatorium. Er spielte unter den Kapellmeistern Carl Reinecke, Arthur Nikisch und Wilhelm Furtwängler. Klengel verfügte neben seinem Talent als Cellist auch über eine besondere pädagogische Begabung. Ab 1911 gehörte er auch zu den Lehrern des neu gegründeten Thüringer Konservatoriums für Musik in Erfurt. Annähernd 1000 Studenten hat er ausgebildet. Zu seinen berühmtesten Schülern zählen Gregor Piatigorsky, Guilhermina Suggia, Rudolf Metzmacher und Emanuel Feuermann. Seine Tochter, Eva Klengel, betrieb in den Jahren etwa zwischen 1935 und 1955 in Leipzig eine Schule für junge Cellisten. Klengel machte sich auch als Komponist einen Namen. Sein bekanntestes Werk ist der Hymnus für 12 Celli. Er schrieb unter anderem eine Serenade in F-Dur op. 24 für Streicher sowie ein Doppelkonzert op. 61 für Violine, Cello und Orchester. Die meisten angehenden (Berufs-)Cellisten spielen ein Klengel-Konzert im Laufe ihrer Ausbildung. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Biographie Paul Klengel begann bereits mit 7 Jahren das Violoncellospiel, wurde Schüler von →Emil Hegar u. →S. Jadassohn (Theorie) und war schon als 16jähriger, vor seinem Abitur, ein begehrter Solist. Seit 1878 unternahm er Konzertreisen in Europa und wurde 1881 Solocellist im Gewandhausorchester, dem er bis 1924 angehörte. Zur gleichen Zeit wurde er auch Lehrer am Leipziger Konservatorium (Titel Professor 1899); in dieser Stellung blieb er bis zu seinem Lebensende. Er erlebte mitschaffend die große Zeit des Gewandhausorchesters unter →Arthur Nikisch und (seit 1922) unter W. Furtwängler. Nach Fr. Grützmacher war er in Mitteldeutschland der bedeutendste, auch von Brahms bewunderte Meister seines Instruments, ebenso berühmt aber auch als Lehrer. Aus seiner Schule sind unter anderem die Violoncellisten E. Feuermann, P. Grümmer, L. Hölscher, W. Lamping, R. Metzmacher und G. Piatigorsky hervorgegangen. Er besaß eine ungewöhnliche pädagogische Begabung, verstand es, die ihm anvertrauten Talente durch individuelle Führung zur Entfaltung zu bringen und wußte seinen Unterricht dank einer umfassenden Literaturkenntnis und staunenswerter Gedächtnispräsenz durch Beispiele stets interessant zu beleben. Überragendes Können verband sich in seinem Spielen und Lehren mit sublimer künstlerischer Kultur. | 2591 | Familie Er war der Sohn des Obersts der Preußischen Armee und chilenischen Oberstleutnants Günther von Below (1868-1933) und dessen entfernter Cousine Mathilde von Below (1875-1937). Nicolaus heiratete am 26. Juni 1937 auf Gut Nienhagen Maria Kühne (* 12. September 1918 in Magdeburg, † 20. August 1999 in Göttingen[1]), Tochter der Gutsbesitzer Stephan Kühne und Barbara Kühne geb. Bennecke. Das Ehepaar hatte einen Sohn und drei Töchter. Militärischer Werdegang Below war 29 Jahre alt, als Hermann Göring ihn ab 16. Juni 1937 zu Hitlers persönlichem Luftwaffenadjutanten machte. Dieses Kommando behielt Below bis zu Hitlers Tod am 30. April 1945. Belows letzte offizielle Handlung war am 29. April 1945 um vier Uhr morgens im Führerbunker seine Unterschrift als Zeuge unter Hitlers privatem Testament - neben den Unterschriften von Martin Bormann und Joseph Goebbels. Um die Mittagszeit des 29. April erbat Below von Hitler die Erlaubnis, den Bunker verlassen zu dürfen.[2] Dieser willigte sofort ein und sagte, er solle sich zu Großadmiral Dönitz begeben. Dieses Ziel erreichte Below nicht. Zusammen mit dem Burschen der Adjutantur Heinz Mathiesing verließ er den Bunker um Mitternacht des 29. April 1945, nachdem er noch an der abendlichen Lagebesprechung teilgenommen hatte. Nach verschiedenen Zwischenstationen schrieb er sich in Bonn als Jurastudent ein und wohnte in Bad Godesberg.[3] Am 7. Januar 1946 wurde er von den Briten im Hörsaal verhaftet.[4] In Kriegsgefangenschaft wurde er von dem Historiker Hugh Trevor-Roper befragt, der später ein Buch über Hitlers letzte Tage schrieb. Um die Beugehaft zu beenden und bessere Haftbedingungen für sich zu erreichen, erzählte er diesem etwas über einen angeblichen Befehl Hitlers, den er Keitel überbringen sollte. „Es hat mir später nicht geringes Vergnügen bereitet, in Trevor-Ropers Buch „The Last Days of Hitler“ (1947) den Quatsch über Hitlers Auftrag an mich zu lesen, Keitel eine geheime Botschaft zu überbringen.“ - Nicolaus von Below[5] Below wurde 1948 nach Nürnberg in den Zeugenflügel des Gerichtsgefängnisses bei den Nürnberger Prozessen verlegt und machte dort eine entlastende Aussage im OKW-Prozess zugunsten von Generalfeldmarschall Sperrle. Nach der Entnazifizierung und seiner Entlassung aus dem britischen Internierungslager Adelheide in Delmenhorst am 14. Mai 1948 lebte er in Norddeutschland. Im Jahr 1983, auf dem Höhepunkt der Affäre um die gefälschten Hitler-Tagebücher, äußerte er Zweifel an deren Echtheit. A very intelligent man, he graduated with honors in 1972 from Medomak Valley High School and earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Westfield State College in Massachusetts in 1992. He was a Vietnam veteran having military service in the U.S. Marine Corps for two years followed later by two years in the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Enterprise CVN 65. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan who followed their games closely. He knew all the players, positions and standings throughout the seasons. He enjoyed traveling and was a very gifted, caring and humorous person to those who knew him. He worked at the Bulk Mail Center in California after his military service and transferred a few years later to the Bulk Mail Center in Springfield, Mass., where he was a supervisor until he retired. After he retired he moved to Maine to be near his family. He was predeceased by his mother, Faye Austin Benner in 1965, and his brother, Steven M. Benner in 1989. He is survived by his father, Ronald L. Benner and his wife, Anita, of Union; his brothers, Daniel I. Benner of Montgomery, Ala., and Randal O. Benner of Old Orchard Beach; his sisters, Deborah L. Walker of Waldoboro, Theresa M. Cousins of Deer Isle and Melissa A. Mason and her husband, Mark, of Union; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Benner of Union, are her father, of Augusta; her mother, Martha G. Austin of Union; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Florence Austin of Washington; four sons, Ronald Allen, 11, David, 6, Stephen, 5, and Randall, 3; one daughter, Deborah, 8, all of Union; three brothers, Frank Austin of Union, Robert Austin of Falls, Church, Va., and Roger Austin of Viet Nam; two sisters, Betty Austin of Union, and Mrs. Annette Griffin of Union. The Bangor Daily News: 20 Jul 1965 Mrs. Faye Benner, about 32, of Union was fatally injured late Sunday afternoon when the station wagon in which she was riding crashed off Route 1, state police reported. Mrs. Benner died shortly after being admitted to the Maine Medical Center in Portland. State Trooper Roger Drake said the car driven by her husband, Ronald, 32 and containing their five children went down a steep embankment and struck a culvert. Benner suffered three broken ribs and multiple bruises and the children scrapes. All were held at Miles Memorial Hospital, Damariscotta for treatment. Private funeral services for Mrs. Faye Austin Benner were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Waldoboro. The Rev. Vernon Jordan officiated and interment was in Union Common Cemetery. She was born at Union Feb. 27, 1933 daughter of Richard C. and Martha Gordon Austin. Surviving besides her husband Ronald L.
