Obit George Frederick Porter-The_Republican_Journal_1915_03_04_3
George Frederick Porter, who died in Camden Feb. 17th, was born in Lincolnville, Oct. 30, 1848, the son of John A. and Betsey Jane Dunton Porter. He attended the town schools and afterward was graduated from the State Normal school at Castine. He taught for several years and then went to Camden. He was employed at the Camden grist mill for twelve years. On leaving the mill he went into the grocery business with Mr. James Ludwig, but remained there only a short time. He then left the firm and took up painting which be followed till 1908, when he bought out his former partner and carried on a prosperous business till the time of his death. In all matters of business he was respected by his competitors and regarded by all as a man of strictest integrity. In 1891, Mr. Porter married Miss Meda L., daughter of Captain and Mary R. Ludwig Pendleton of Lincolnville, Me., who with one son and two daughters survive him. Mr. Porter united with the Chestnut Street Baptist church in 1902. He was present at the morning service and at the session of the Sunday school on the day he was stricken. Consistent in his walk as a Christian, he was a good neighbor, a kind husband and a devoted father, and will be missed by a host of friends. The funeral was held at his late home Feb. 20th, Rev. S. E. Frobock officiating. Amity Lodge, F. & A. M., of which he was a member, attended in a body and took part in the service..
