Obituary for Neil Hilt

Surfside Beach Neil B. Hilt, Sr., age 82, died on April 11, 2015 at National Health Care, Garden City, SC. Born in Union, ME, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Beulah Hilt. Mr. Hilt retired from Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company after 34 years. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and Newton Masonic Lodge in Wilbraham, MA where he served as Lodge Master for 2 years and District Deputy for a year. He volunteered as a scout leader, Indian guide, and little league baseball coach over the years. Mr. Hilt enjoyed golfing, boating, swimming and playing with his grandchildren. He was a loving and supportive husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Hilt. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gail of Surfside Beach; sons, Neil B. Hilt, Jr. and wife Francese of Georgia VT, Stephen A. Hilt and husband Gregory A. Fenton of Brookline, MA, and John Thomas Hilt and wife Paula of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; daughters, Katharine Johnson and companion John Magnani of Springfield, MA, Donna Sutcliffe and husband Scott of Palmer, MA, and Suzanne Pike and husband Phil of Lancaster, SC; grandchildren, Alan, Ian, Lisa, Kyle, Kaitlin, Jessica, Benjamin, Abigail, Manuela, Justin, and Ryan; great grandchildren, Alex, Zoey, and A.J.; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. A funeral mass will be said at 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at St. Michael Catholic Church with a reception following at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave. Dallas, TX 75231.
