He was the son of William Henry Griffin and Mary Ellen Marks.
With Elizabeth "Lizzie" Frances Marks, he had the following child:
William A. Griffin alias Marks, b. Malaga Island, Maine, 7 Feb. 1909, d. Maine School for the Feebleminded, New Gloucester, Cumberland, Maine, 12 April 1928.
William A. Griffin was forced to leave his home on Malaga Island, and he settled in the town of Bath. However, his partner Elizabeth Marks and their son William A. Griffin Marks were forcibly sent to the Maine School for the Feebleminded, where they both died.
He married in Phippsburg 21 October 1914, Abbie Melvina Barnes alias Darling. She died the following year, in Bath, Maine on 18 November 1915.
