THOMASTON - Milton H. Wooster, 83, died with his loving family at his side, following a long battle with cancer, Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at his home.
Born in Owls Head, August 6, 1925, he was the son of C. Ansel and Elvie Robinson Wooster. He was raised in Rockland on Holmes Street. Milton was educated in Rockland and was a 1943 graduate of Rockland High School. During his senior year spring break, he went to Boston where he enlisted in U.S. Coast Guard, entering after graduation.
Serving during World War II, in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theaters and the Asiatic Pacific Theaters, Milton served aboard the USS Cepheus.
Returning from the war, he participated in many plays with the Rockland Theater. His wife remembers he would often quote lines from plays from over 40 years ago. His sharp mind allowed him to recall dates and events that happened years ago.
On July 22, 1983 he married Shirley Seekins Paulsen in Camden. Together they created and built the Coastal Cosmetology Academy, operating it for several years with Milton as bookkeeper.
Milton was a warm, gentle man who never judged anyone. He would extend a helping hand to anyone regardless of their situation and wouldn't ask any questions. He often took family and friends into his home when they needed a place to stay. He had a big heart and loved children, whether they were his "adopted" kids he met while serving overseas, his own grandchildren, or the Boy Scout troops he led. Keeping with the Boy Scout code, he gave of his time to help 13 boys earn their Eagle Scout.
For many years Milton was employed as an office manager at Fuller Cadillac in Rockland. For several years he was rated number one in his accounting work by the company. He also served as office manager for other area car dealerships.
Milton was a great organizer and kept numerous note books with memorabilia. Much of this memorabilia he donated to the Maine Lighthouse Museum. The museum is currently working on an exhibit in his honor.
A person of strong faith, Milton enjoyed reading his bible. His wife remembers that he never once complained during his illness and often comforted her by saying it was not for them to question. He believed his Lord had a plan for him.
Predeceased by a son Daniel Wooster in 2002 and a grandson Jamie Ross in 2008; Milton is survived by his wife, Shirley Wooster of Thomaston; his children, Dennis Wooster of Warren, David Wooster and his wife, Nancy of Waldoboro, Doreen Genthner and her companion, Dane Winslow of Union, Donald Paulsen, II and his wife, Cathy of Cushing, Tammy Benner of Rockland; Lori Benner and her husband, Steven of Warren; eight grandchildren, Cate Wooster, Amy Wooster, Misty Link, Melony Gomez, Ashley Benner, Craig Benner, Chelsey Benner, Dustin Benner; 11 great-grandchildren, Ashley Wooster, Logan Link, Abby Harris, Courtney Wooster, Dylan Williams, Noah Ross, Alexander Gomez, Aaleigh McDonald, Jace Doughty, Ava Beal, Owan Ross; as well as two brothers Carlton Wooster and his wife Leona of Rockland, and Ervin Wooster of Rockland.
