GNES PAYTON GENTHNER
Agnes Payton Genthner, 91, Damariscotta died after an unexpected illness Oct. 29 at her granddaughters home where she had resided since January. Born in Waldoboro March 10, 1904, she was the daughter of George W. and Laura Shuman Jones. She was educated in Waldoboro schools. In earlier years Mrs. Genthner had worked at the Waldoboro Button Factory and at Rockland and Boothbay Seafood processing companies. More recently and until her retirement in 1972, she had worked as a housekeeper for local families. Mrs. Genthner kept two donkeys which she attectiontately referred to as Jack & Jill. She enjoyed driving her lawn tractor and was often seen pulling her grandchildren in a wagon behind the tractor. Pre-ceased by one daughter Lillian L. Kummel in 1992. Mrs. Genthner is survived by four daughters, June Genthner of Waldoboro, Louise Collamore of West Bath, Elta Storer with whom she resided for 40 years of Damariscotta, Lois Reed of Rockland; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and one nephew, Niven Chapman of Damariscotta. A celebration of Mrs. Genthners' life will be held at 1 p.m. Wed. Nov. 1, from from the chapel of the Strong Funeral Home, Business Rt. One, Damariscotta. Pastor Rick Newell will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, Damariscotta.
