  	LifeSketch WALDOBORO - Alton Lindbergh Genthner, 80, a resident of Duck Puddle Road, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at a Bangor health care facility, after a long period of failing health. Alton was born Feb. 10, 1928, in Waldoboro, the son of Stacy and Thelma Genthner. Alton attended Waldoboro schools. Leaving school early to work to help his family during the war, he worked for his brother, Maynard's, newspaper, The Waldoboro Press, where he began his long career as a print man for several newspapers, including the former Bath Times, which became the Times Record, Brunswick, and the Kennebec Journal, Augusta, where he was a linotype operator, retiring early due to his failing health. A founding member of Small Woodlands Owners of Maine, he enjoyed harvesting wood from his own lot and others in the area. Alton loved to be outdoors, working his lot, tending his gardens, and watching nature around him, especially bird watching. He loved good food and music, collecting stamps and watching the Red Sox, and watching "anything that goes" with his daughter, Diane. They would attend auto shows, air shows and train watch whenever the opportunity arose. He was predeceased by two half brothers, George and Maynard Genthner. Survivors include his wife, June Genthner of Waldoboro; a daughter, Diane Genthner and her partner, Brent, of Hampden; many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 5-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. A private funeral service will be held. Interment will be at German Cemetery, Waldoboro. Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Alton's memory to the Maine Audubon Society, 20 Gilsland Farm Road, Falmouth, ME 04105.
