Millicent B. Vannah, 81, of Waldoboro died Tuesday at her home after a long illness with cancer. She was born here, a daughter of Fred and Lottie Graham Burns, and graduated in 1934 from Waldoboro High School, where she played basketball all four years. Mrs. Vannah worked at the Paragon Button Factory, her sister\'s Maude\'s Sandwich Shop, the Medomak Restaurant, Moody\'s Diner and for many years, as a waitress at Dave\'s Restaurant, Waldoboro and Thomaston. Mrs. Vannah was a past Worthy Matron of the Wiwuma Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She loved doing crossword puzzles, enjoyed reading, especially biographies and autobiographies. She also enjoyed bird watching and had a large spoon collection. Gardening was one of her favorite pastimes, especially her flower gardens. She was an enthusiastic Boston Celtics fan and rarely missed a game, her family said. Laurie Jane Broberg of Yarmouth and Ronald Ralph of Waldoboro, were a special neice and nephew. Surviving are a son, Larry Vannah of Honolulu; a daughter, Cynthia Vannah of Waldoboro; two sisters, Maude Ralph of Waldoboro and Gertrude Ralph of Coopers Mills at Whitefield. Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Dorr officiating. Burial will be at Dutch Neck Cemetery, Waldoboro. Arrangements are by Hall Funeral Home. Portland Newspapers Jun 10, 1998 |
