| LifeSketch | Samuel Wood Gushee came to Nebraska and settled in Polk County on April 5 1874, farming for 3 years near Osceola and removing to this city in 1878. He conducted an implement business for several years and was afterward employed in a dry good store by S N Drew and Company. On August 5 1889 he formed a partnership in the mercantile business with George W West, under the firm name of West and Gushee, which continued until July 1907, when it was dissolved by mutual consent both members retiring from business in Osceola. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church having united May 10, 1903, and at the time of his death was chairman of the board of trustees. He served as treasurer of the board at the time of the building of the new church. He was a member of the IOOF, and the Tribe of Ben Hur, serving in the capacity of Scribe.
