    LifeSketch APPLETON - Louise Alice (Grinnell) Calderwood of Appleton just turned 86, died on 4/21/2020 from a heart attack. She was born in Appleton, Maine on April 17, 1934. She was the daughter Edward B. and Nettie L. (Hurd) Grinnell and was predeceased by her beloved husband Lee C. Calderwood. She graduated from Appleton High School as Valedictorian of the Class of 1952 and from Husson College in Bangor, Maine in 1953 upon completing her course in Secretarial Science. She was a very literary person; she loved books and crossword puzzles. After college, she was employed by the Maine Surgical Supply Company in Portland, Maine for three years in the capacity of Stenographer and Billing Clerk and later as the Accounts Payable Bookkeeper. She married Lee Calderwood on June 26, 1954. Upon moving to Massachusetts with her family in 1957, she worked for Raytheon Company as a secretary in the Missile Systems Division in Waltham, Massachusetts. Retiring from work to raise a family, she was a homemaker for 17 years. Upon returning to Maine with her family, she worked for the Town Office of Appleton and then worked for the Camden National Bank as a Teller. Upon leaving, she found employment with the United States Department of Agriculture at the Farmers Home Administration in Rockland, Maine working two and one half years and then transferring to the Veterans Administration at Togus where she was employed as a Medical Secretary for five years, where her husband also worked as a Safety Engineer for fifteen years. She was a member of the Peoples United Methodist Church in Union, Maine. She is survived by son Joel Calderwood of Appleton; her daughter Sarah Lee (Calderwood) Perkins and her husband Jeffrey Perkins of Bangor; two grandsons: Jesse Perkins of Fairfax, VA and Tyler Perkins of and his wife Lindsey of Benton, ME; brother Edward Grinnell Jr. and his wife Helen of Warren, ME; sisters Ruth (Grinnell) Mower of Winthrop, MA, and Betty (Grinnell) Ripley and her husband Milton of Shirley, MA. Under the current COVID-19 situation, there will not be a service at this time. If possible, a celebration of life will be held in the near future. Louise had a special connection and love for adoption. In lieu of flowers, donations sent to Maine Children\'s Home for Little Wanderers would be appreciated.
