Lemuel was the son of Sion Wentworth and Hannah Pettingill, his parents were married 25 Oct 1753 at Sharon, Norfolk, MA. Sion was born 31 Mar 1725 Dorchester, Suffolk, MA and died 9 Nov 1776 Stoughton, Norfolk, MA. From that union were born the following issues: Lemuel (1754-1844) the subject of this memorial, Hannah (1756-1801,) Shubeal (1759-1837), David (1763-1855,) Benjamin (1765-1791,) Enoch (1766-1857), Sion (1769-1843) and Lydia (1775-1775).
Lemuel married Susanna Whittmore, surname spelled numerous ways.

Lemuel served our country in the American Revolution with the Army in Captain Hind's Company, Colonel Reed's Regiment. Records show that he was paid by the government for a gun which he had lost at the Battle of Bunker Hill. He marched from Winter Hill to New York, to Albany, Ticonderoga and Montreal and back to Mount Independence. Afterwards he went to Trenton where he was in a battle in which the Hessians (German soldiers hired by England to fight against the Americans during the Revolutionary War) and captured.
