Walter Rice “Holly” Hollensteiner, 82, passed away May 3, 2016, in Bozeman, MT. Holly was born to Franz and Dorothy (Rice) Hollensteiner on February 4, 1934, in Chicago, IL, where he was raised and went to school. He attended North Park College Academy Theological Seminary and Music School while in high school, later Montana State University in Missoula, MT, the University of London, and he graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, in 1956 after recuperating from polio. Holly worked sales for various retail companies in Chicago prior to being a stock broker, and culminating in construction of starter homes, and building and management of rental properties in Belgrade, MT. He enjoyed finance, skiing, hunting and socializing with friends and family. Holly loved to talk about his youth experiences, i.e. spending the night in jail in Jacksonville, FL, at the ripe old age of 13, and in his late teens arriving at the La Scala Opera House in Milan, Italy, whereupon his front bumper fell off his car just to impress the hoity-toity folks of Milan, and last but not least, countless stories about his dogs. He married Beatrice Jean Lampadius on July 18, 1959, in Woodstock, IL, and they had two children, William and Katherine. Holly is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beatrice “Bitsy”; son, William (Julie Perkins) Hollensteiner of Kent, WA; brother, James Hollensteiner of Chicago, IL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Katherine Hollensteiner. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in his name to the Belgrade Senior Center, 92 Cameron Ave., Belgrade, MT 59714 or the Gallatin Historical Society and Pioneer Museum, 317 W. Main, Bozeman, MT 59715. |
