Pease, who died February 6, 2010, will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Achorn Cemetery, Old County Road, Rockland. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, Rockland. ROCKLAND - Leroy B. Pease, 78, died Saturday, February 6, 2010, at Togus Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta after an extended illness. Born in Warren, December 31, 1931, he was the son of Harold C. and Hazel Burkett Pease. Educated in local schools, he was a 1949 graduate of Warren Academy. He was first employed with Maine Central Railroad until entering the United States Army on October 23, 1952. While serving in Korea, Leroy was wounded in combat, for which he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Returning to civilian life, he worked most of his career as a commercial fisherman, fishing out of Rockland, Florida, New Bedford and Gloucester, Massachusetts. In 1977 he married Mildred \"Billie\" Margaret Bolton, and in 1994 he retired to care for his wife who suffered with dementia. He later assisted his daughter and son-in-law in the operation of the Rockland Skate Center. Leroy was an avid reader and loved playing Suduku. In earlier years he was an avid motorcyclist who always rode Indian motorcycles. Leroy was pre-deceased by his wife \'Billie\' in 2005; three brothers, Harold, Earl and David; a sister Vera Morse; step-son William \'Buddy\' Wilkes, Jr. in September, 1990, and one grandchild Richard Wilkes. He is survived by a step-daughter Peggy Salminen and her husband Charles of Rockland; two brothers, Philip Pease and his wife Mabel of Union, Ken Pease of Lewiston; two sisters, Ruth Emery of Warren and Bradenton, FL, Phyllis Young and her husband Elden of Modesto, CA; his companion of several years, who he affectionately referred to as his \'Special Dory Mate\', Christine Maxcy with whom he resided; three grandchildren, Kelly-Ann Salminen of South Portland, James LaCrosse of Jefferson, Michelle Wagner of Newcastle; and four great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Leroy\'s family is grateful for the special and loving care he received from the Kno-Wal-Lin Hospice and Veterans Administration Hospice. A graveside service with military honors at Achorn Cemetery, will be announced in the spring by Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, Rockland. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kno-Wal-Lin Hospice, 170 Pleasant Street, Rockland, ME 04841, or Veterans Administration Volunteer Services, One VA Center, Togus, ME 04330.
