He joined the U.S. Navy in February, 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1962. He met "C.L." at the USO in Boston, MA and on June 29, 1963 they married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. To this union two daughters were born.
George worked at the Standard Station in Mobridge and then worked for Coca-Cola for two years as a salesman in the west river area. He then went to work for Val Goldade's Service Station and in 1975 he started working for the Old Milwaukee Railroad and later Burlington Northern in Edgemont and Alliance, NE. He enjoyed fishing and piddling in his garage. He made his own lures and gave them to his grandchildren, other family and friends. George was known as the local "candy man", he handed out Werther's candy to ladies who held out their hand. He enjoyed mowing his lawn and also his neighbor's. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed taking them fishing. He had a dog named "Jake" and affectionately called him a "soup hound" and he went everywhere with George. When George worked on the railroad his nickname was "Smokey" and his siblings called him "Snooks". Which is why he gave his daughters and grandkids nicknames too.
George was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge where he served as governor for a time and also volunteered as a bartender.
