Carol Ann (Lapham) Baer was born April, 11, 1938 in Lewistown, Maine to Elwood and Geraldine Lapham. Carol graduated in 1957 from Hollowell High School in Hollowell, Maine. She went to college where she earned her diploma in accounting. She worked for Liberty Mutual and Harstone.
She met Reinhold George Baer at the USO in Boston, MA, during his time in the US Navy. On June 29, 1963 Carol and George married at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mobridge. To this union two daughters, Mary and Jerri were born. George used to lovingly call Carol, Mother Dear. Also when he was upset with Carol he used to say: Why don’t you just “Bite Me.” Carol’s job was a homemaker tending to her girls and her husband.
In 1985, Carol and George moved to Edgemont, SD, where George was employed by Burlington Northern R.R. They moved back to Mobridge in 2002. In 2020 Carol moved to Mother Joseph Manor nursing home in Aberdeen until the time of her death.
Carol enjoyed her various organizations, which included VFW, WOM, Legion Auxiliary, and the Altar Society at her church. She was president of VFW for many, many years both in Edgemont and Mobridge. Carol was an avid lover and collector of mice, both the stuffed and knick knack kind. It so happened one Christmas her daughter Mary bought her a live mouse as a gift. She kept that mouse as a pet. Mary used to laugh at her sister Jerri because she was afraid of that little mouse.
Carol is survived by her two daughters, Mary (Calvin) Kraft of Isabel, SD, Jerri (Terry) Schneider of Aberdeen, SD, brother, Butchie (Bianca) of Michigan, grandchildren, Eric, Winter, D.J., Brandon, Gabby, Chapen, and two great grandchildren.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, George, grandson, Ty Kraft, her parents and her beloved pet mouse.
