Mr. Varney was a retired land surveyor and owned his own company in Windham. He was a Catholic. Surviving are his wife, of Tallahassee; one daughter of Naugatuck, Conn.; one stepdaughter; two stepsons; two sisters, including Patty Chase of Naples, ME and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Windham. Local arrangements are by Dolby Funeral Chapel, Windham.
