George E. Robinson, Sr.

George E. Robinson, Sr., 84, of 348 Mill St. Ext., died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 in River Terrace Healthcare, after an illness.
He leaves four children: Carol Garfield and her husband, David, of Winchendon, George Robinson, Jr. and his wife, Chris, of Lunenburg, Sharon Flanigan and her husband, James, of Marlborough, and Laura Robinson of Clinton; four step-children: Mary Sulkoski and her husband, Tony, of Brunswick, ME, Dianne Cahill and her husband, Lee, of Oxford, Susan Durost and her husband, Robert, of Lancaster, and Kenneth Godin of Lancaster; a brother, Charles Robinson; two sisters: Dorothy Bailey and Emma Campbell; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Mary A. (Marchelletta) Robinson, who died in 2005, and their son, Philip S. Robinson, who died in 1982. Three siblings, Kenneth Robinson, Arthur Robinson, and Elizabeth Witkowski, also predeceased him.
George was born in Harvard, son of Charles and Orilda (Stebbins) Robinson, and lived in Lancaster most of his life. A US Army Veteran of the Korean War, he served with the 101st Airborne Division, and was an active member of the American Legion, Post 96, for nearly 50 years.
He worked for the Town of Lancaster, Department of Public Works, for 30 years, retiring as Supervisor in 1991. George was a dedicated member of the community, who, through the years, served on numerous committees for the betterment of the Town of Lancaster, including the Korean War Memorial, and the Thayer Field Commission, and served as Water Commissioner and a Special Reserve Police Officer.
Services and burial are private. There are no calling hours. For those who wish, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Lancaster Ambulance Department, P.O. Box 96, Lancaster, MA 01523, or to a Veterans Organization of one's choice.
