- Lucille E. Jones, 89, passed away peacefully November 5, 2021, at the Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland with her daughter Barbara by her side.
Lucille was the daughter of Lempe (Alajoki) and Albert Quinn. She grew up on Rankin Street in Rockland. After losing her mother at the age of six she moved to North Haven to live with her paternal grandparents, Paulina and George Quinn. She always spoke fondly of her grandparents and her years on the island.
She returned to Rockville as a teenager and attended Rockport High School, graduating with the class of 1950. During that time, she met the love of her life, Bob. They were married in 1951 and enjoyed 69 years together. Bob was the boy next door, they met on the school bus when Bob's family moved to Rockport. They purchased a house on the same street where they met and grew up and made that house their home for over 60 years.
Lucille worked as a bookkeeper, until her two children were born. She loved being a mother and happily stayed at home to raise her children. After her children were grown, she returned to work as a part-time bookkeeper at Libby Chevrolet in Rockport. She enjoyed her work there for many years before retiring.
Lucille had a special talent for decorating and knew how to make a comfortable and cozy home.
Summers were filled with family members from near and far. It was a time for fun, beach outings, and lots of picnics. Lucille was a good cook and loved to bake. Her two children arrived home from school to freshly baked cookies, brownies, or whoopie pies. There was always a candy dish filled with seasonal treats.
She and Bob loved to garden, and spent many hours together planting, weeding, and pruning. She almost always had a freshly picked bouquet on her kitchen table. Lucille and Bob loved having pets. In their later years, they especially enjoyed their little dog Angel.
Lucille loved to shop and decorate for the holidays. She never forgot a birthday and would find just the right card and gift for every occasion. While she loved being Mom, being grandmother was even better. She was happiest when surrounded by her grandchildren, and later her great-grandchildren.
All that knew and loved Lucille, knew she spoke her mind freely and without reservation. She loved to talk and kept in touch with her many friends and school mates through the years. Family and friends meant the world to her.
Other than her parents, Lucille was predeceased by her husband, Bob; son, Bobby (Robert Jr.); and brother, George Quinn.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Peabody and husband Tim; daughter-in-law, Theresa Jones and partner Roland Croteau; sister-in-law Beverly Quinn; step-sister Ninon Lohnes; half-sisters Mary Peterson and husband Steve, and Becky Merrill; grandchildren, Emily MacCabe and husband Kris, Rachel Jones, Tyler Jones and wife Abby, Andrew Peabody and wife Tami, and Benjamin Peabody; great-grandchildren Trinity, Taryn, Taylor, Elliot, Parker, Mallory, Georgia, and Wilder, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
