Harlan was the son of Earle Theodore Maxcy, Sr., of Thomaston, Knox County, Maine and Ruth Emily Lermond Maxcy of Warren, Knox County, Maine. Ruth and Earle were married on 03 July 1918 in Warren, Knox County, Maine. Ruth and Earle had four children. They were: Earle Maxcy, Jr., was born on 24 March 1919; Harlan S. Maxcy was born on 04 December 1923; Robert M. Maxcy was born on 17 November 1929; and Marilyn Jean Maxcy was born on 19 February 1932 in Thomaston, Knox County, Maine.
Harlan married Myra W. Lash on 20 March 1946 in Camden, Knox County, Maine.
Note: Thomaston – Harlan S. Maxcy, 87, longtime Friendship resident, went home to be with the Lord, at Miles Memorial Hospital. He was surrounded by his wife, all of their children and many grandchildren. Born in Warren, he was the son of Earle and Ruth Lermond Maxcy. Harlan was educated locally and attended Thomaston High School. Drafted into the US Army during World War II, Harlan was proud to have fought in five major battles of that time. While in the Army he was a motorcycle dispatch rider. His family said this sparked his life-long love of motorcycle riding. Returning to the states, Harlan married the love of his life, Myra W. Lash in Camden on March 20, 1946. The couple made their home in Friendship most of their married life. Together they held memberships at Friendship Advent Christian Church. For several years, Harlan was employed as a guard at the Maine State Prison. For twenty years he worked as an electrician at Bath Iron Works. For most of his career, Harlan was a truck driver. His family said he loved to be behind the wheel, and he continued trucking even when he was 80 years old. Harlan plowed snow for the Town of Cushing until a stroke forced him to stop. Harlan enjoyed music and sharing his talents with others. He often played accordion and harmonica at local nursing homes, including Cove's Edge where he recently spent a few weeks as a resident. Camping and riding his motorcycle with his wife were favorite pastimes. Together they enjoyed many trips, including long distance trips to Canada and North Carolina. Predeceased by a son, Joel S. Maxcy in 2009; two brothers, Earle Maxcy, Jr. and Robert Maxcy; Harlan is survived by his wife with whom he would have celebrated his 65th anniversary in March, Myra Maxcy of Thomaston; his daughter-in-law, Awilda "Diddy" Maxcy of Friendship; his children, Linda Simmons and her husband, Roger of Warren, Varna Anderson and her husband, Virgil of Friendship, Roberta Anderson and her husband, Weston of Topsham, Jill Caldwell and her husband, Stuart of Orr's Island, Eric Maxcy of Hope; Emily Crowley and her husband Richard, Sr. of Orr's Island; a sister Marilyn Levensaler and her husband Cedric "Bruzz" of Yarmouth; 17 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Reverend Alan Chamberlain officiated. Interment in Village Cemetery, Friendship, Maine.
