- Portland, ME - Ida Mae Ramsdell, 56, of Portland died peacefully on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the Barron Center in Portland. She was the wife of the late William Cosgrove Jr.
She was born in Eastport, ME on December 24, 1960 a daughter of the late Hazen L. & Lorraine M. (Cook) Ramsdell. Ida grew up in Windsor Locks, CT and graduated from Springfield College with a Bachelor’s in Human Services.
Ida dedicated her life to social work; hold several jobs for non-profit organizations in CT helping the disabled, the deaf, woman after being released from prison and doing intake for addiction, among others. She also volunteered her time for Vista Volunteers, which is a program that helps the deaf to read.
She was also an avid New England Patriots fan, always routing for “her Patriots”.
She is survived by four children, Amanda Weibring and her husband Joseph of Tacoma, WA, Stephen Ramsdell and his wife Mindy of Queens Creek, AZ, William Norris Cosgrove III of Ft. Walton Beach, FL and Corrine Cosgrove of Calais, ME. She also leaves eleven grandchildren Chad, Jakob, Stevie, Bree, Megan, Raven, Nevaeh, William IV “Beeb”, Rhianna, Brendon and Jocelyn as well as a sister Shirley Ramsdell of West Hartford, CT and a niece Laurel Newman of Boston, MA. She was also the sister of the late David Ramsdell, who died in November 2006.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
