| LifeSketch | The Rev. Herman R. Winchenbaugh, 87, of Rockland, died in Deaconess Hospital, Boston Monday after three weeks of illness. He was born at Waldoboro Sept. 30, 1881, son of James R. and Edna Hodgdon Winchenbaugh. He attended school at Waldoboro than taught there 16 years. He was town tax collector, an assessor, constable and town meeting moderator. In 1919, he went to Rockland as manager of the district Importing Company which later became the First National Stores, and was a branch manager 25 years. He had been a member of the board of the Pratt Memorial Methodist Church and had been a local preacher 50 years, holding pastorates at South Thomason and Spruce Head from 1921-27. He was past master of Waldoboro Grand of Odd Fellows and a past grand chaplain of Odd Fellows. Mr. Winchenbaugh was a past commander of Anderson Camp, sons of Union Veterans Chaplain of Aurora Masonic Lodge, Rockland, 30 years, was a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rites Bodies, received the meritorious services award from the Council of Deliberation in 1961, and in York Rites was a member of King Solomon\'s Temple Chapter, King Hiram Council and Claremont Commandary. He was also a past patron of Golden Rod Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Poletti of Quincy, Mass., and Mrs. Evangeline Sylvester of Rockland, four sons, Gabriel of Waldoboro, Exavier, Ensign and Manuel of Rockland; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Services were Wednesday at Pratt Memorial Methodist Church, the Rev. Harry Starbuck officiating assisted by members of Aurora Lodge of Masons.
