- Gideon C. Winchenbach, 69, Union, died Oct. 15, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief illness. He was born June 8, 1926, in Waldoboro the son of Chester and Carrie Cushman Winchenbach. A resident of the Maine Seacoast area all of his life. He attended West Waldoboro schools. He served in the Army during WWII in the Air Repair Squadron. His specialty was an airplane and engine mechanic. He received many medal and ribbons from the Philippines including the WWII victory medal for his service. He was a member of the VFW. He was road commisoner for the town of Union for nearly 30 years. He also worked the Union Fairgrounds taking care of the race track for 18 years. He was currently retired raising beef critters. He is survived by two daughters, Lydia Winchenbach Abbotoni and Deidrekay Rolerson both of Union; two sons, Craig and Darrell Winchenbach both of Waldoboro, two sisters, Priscilla Poland and Christine Clifford both of Waldoboro; four brothers, Robert of Waldoboro, Addison of Waldoboro, Carlton of California, and Russell of Augusta, three grandchildren, Amber-Rose Abbotoni of Union, Darren and Even Winchenbach both of Waldoboro, several nieces and nephews. He also raised five boys, pall Belcher, Dana, Gerald, Brian and Duane Rolerson and he had a live in friend Leola Russell. The funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thurs., Oct. 18, at the Hall Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Union. Arrangements are under the direction of Hall Funeral Home in Waldoboro.
