Winchenbach, 80, died Sunday, January 27, 2002, at her home after a brief illness. Born in East Friendship, July 8, 1921, she was the daughter of Enok and Anna Traurum Pikkarainen. She was educated in Friendship schools. January 1st, 1942, she married Robert L. Winchenbach in Rockland. The couple resided on Court Street in Rockland more than 20 years, before moving to their Park Street home here, in 1965. In earlier years, Mrs. Winchenbach worked at the Thorndike Hotel, Samoset Resort and Cedar Crest Motel. She was a member of the Rockland Congregational Church and the Ladies Guild of the church, Rockport Garden Club, The Finnish / American Society, Senior Citizens of Union, Evening Extension of West Rockport and the West Rockport Cemetery Association. An avid gardener, she kept beautiful flower gardens at her home. She also took great pleasure in her home, her family, keeping bird feeders, watching the birds, crocheting and reading. Mrs. Winchenbach was pre-deceased by one daughter Cheryl Ann Reed in 1976; two sisters, Laina "Peggy" Lahja Grandstorm and Anna May Sutela. Besides her husband of 60 years, she is survived by two sons, Steven R. Winchenbach and his wife Shirley of Lisbon, Bruce C. Winchenbach of Waldoboro; four daughters, Elaine F. Burge of Winthrop, Linda C. Grant of Rockland, Angela Lynn Winchenbach of West Rockport, Mickie L. Hoffman and her husband Ryan of Huntington, NY; ten grandchildren, Kevin Burge, Alan Burge, Gregory Smart, Todd Winchenbach, Mariann Gamage, Katherine Winchenbach, Rachel Wandell, Bruce Winchenbach, Jr., Robert Winchenbach, Timothy Winchenbach; four great-grandchildren, Jamie Burge, Brandon Burge, Michaela Winchenbach, Gregory Smart, Jr. as well as several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A celebration of Mrs. Winchenbach' life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 31st, at the Rockland Congregational Church, 180 Limerock Street, Rockland. The Reverend Dr. D. | 5002 | Obituary for Mrs. Deborah Lee Fortin Deborah Lee Fortin Loving Mother and Grandmother LOWELL—Deborah Lee “Debbie” (Calhoun) Fortin, 49, a resident of Centralville, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Lowell General Hospital, following a brief battle with cancer. She was the loving wife of Arthur Fortin, to whom she had been married for 24 years. Debbie was born in Lowell on October 19, 1962, a daughter of Leo Calhoun (Retired Lowell Fire Dept.) and Margaret (Gendreau) Ahearn who both survive her. She was a graduate of the Sacred Heart Grammar School and the Greater Lowell Regional Vocational High School. She was a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart Church. For twenty years Debbie was a school bus driver in the North Reading School District. Debbie enjoyed reading, puzzles, and crocheting. She loved spending time with her four grandchildren. Surviving Debbie in addition to her parents and husband are her four children, Nichole M. (Calhoun) Nowell and her husband Eric of Tennessee, Mark Fortin and his fiancé Nicole Furtado of Exeter, NH, Courtney Fortin and her boyfriend Joey Parington of Dracut, and Vanessa Fortin and her fiancé David Furtado of Lee, NH; four grandchildren, Makayla Fortin, Makenzie Fortin, Peyton Furtado, and Elijah Nowell; a sister, Jean Calhoun of Lowell; four brothers, Leo Calhoun of Lowell, Jimmy Ahearn and his wife Danielle of Methuen, Brian Ahearn and his wife Kim of Nashua, NH, and Earl Burns of Lowell; a sister-in-law, Joanne Calhoun of Lowell, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. "Pa" Gracie WASHINGTON – Reginald S. ‘Pa’ Gracie, 62, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer, Sunday, January 26, 2014 at his home. Born in Hope, August 4, 1951, he was the son of Stanley and Lottie Whitney Gracie. Educated locally, he was a 1969 graduate of Medomak Valley High School. Following graduation, Reggie enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving overseas during the Vietnam Era. Returning to the states he started his own janitorial service which served businesses throughout New England. Later Reggie became a residential counselor, working for Harbor Schools in Rockport. His family said he had a great relationship with the students there, earning their respect by giving them his. On September 30, 2006, Reggie married Flame Kaler. Together they have made their home in Washington. An avid outdoorsmen and hunter, Pa looked forward to hunting season and annual hunts with his children, grandchildren, family and friends. Target shooting and 4-Wheeling were also favorite pastimes. Pa will be remembered for his sense of humor, and was known for his practical jokes. He loved to keep everyone on edge wondering what his next joke would be. Family was his number one priority, and he loved spending time with them. He was a kid at heart and loved taking them to fairs all across Maine. Predeceased by an infant daughter Christine in 1973 and his parents Stanley and Lottie Gracie. He was born August 5, 1939 in Butler County, Ohio the son of the late Albert and Martha (Montgomery) Lotz. On August 5, 1961 he married Charlotte Ball. Mr. Lotz worked for 40 years as a pipefitter for the Pipefitters Local Union 392, retiring in 2000. After his retirement he enjoyed 10 years as locker room supervisor at the Mercy Heathplex, and made many friendships there. He loved spending time with his family and was known for his tremendous sense of humor. Mr. Lotz is survived by his wife Charlotte Lotz; one son Steven Charles (Renee) Lotz; two grandchildren Ryan and Kayla; his sister in law Gloria (Paul) Stubblefield, and three nieces Dawn Clark, Sherri (Charlie) Thacker, and Debbie Adams. | 5013 | Obituary: THOMASTON - Patricia Ann (Wallace) Beckett, 67, died Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Maine Medical Center in Portland following a long illness. Born July 5, 1947 in Thomaston, Maine, she was the daughter of William A. and Celia Stone Wallace. She attended local schools, and was a member of the first graduating class of the newly built Georges Valley High School in 1964. Upon graduation at the age of 16, she began work at the Knox Hospital in Rockland. Patty met Robert Beckett, brother of schoolmate Eileen, and they were married on June 28, 1969, at the Methodist Church in Camden. Their daughter Melanie was born in 1971, and son Brian in 1978. At that time, she stayed home to raise her children. Over the years, Patty enjoyed teaching preschool at the Learning Center located at the Thomaston Federated Church, as well as taking care of neighborhood children in her home. Later in life, she earned a Certificate of Religious Studies. One of Patty’s favorite memories included gathering with aunts, uncles, and cousins at her parent’s summer cottage on the St. George River in Cushing. She also enjoyed family lobster cookouts at the home of her Aunt Marion and Uncle Lewis Stone in Thomaston. Family holidays and birthday gatherings were always special times and created memories she cherished. Patty enjoyed baking and decorating for holidays. Some of her favorite hobbies included keeping scrapbooks, watching the Cooking Channel, going to Marshall Point Light and Drift Inn Beach, and reading. She loved animals, and always had cats in her life. The lights of her life were her grandsons, Jacob Hyatt and Joshua Beckett, for whom she cared during their younger years. She was particularly proud of watching them grow and marveling at all their achievements. A consummate caregiver her entire life, Patty cared for both her father, William, during his battle with Parkinson’s Disease, and her husband, Bob, during his illness with Alzheimer’s Disease until the final stages took them to nursing care. Since her father’s death in 2007, she was the primary caregiver of her mother, Celia, allowing her to remain in her home until her death in February of this year at age 92. Following the death of her husband Bob in 2010, Patty struck up a lasting friendship with Thomas Kelley of Lockport, NY. Tom made trips to Maine over the past few years to be with her. She enjoyed sharing with him the beauty of the Maine Coast and they spent many happy times together and kept in touch for hours over the phone. She was thankful for his love and friendship in her life. Patty’s illness took her to many different care facilities over the past year. She received attentive care at Windward Gardens in Camden, Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, and Maine Medical Center in Portland. During the final stage of her life, she was able to return home to her son Brian’s home for a few weeks, which made her very happy. This was made possible due to the nursing care of her daughter-in-law, Lidia, to whom she was particularly grateful. Patty was a member of the Ladies American Legion Auxiliary in Thomaston, as well as a Mayflower descendant. She is survived by her son, Brian Beckett and his wife Lidia of Thomaston; her daughter Melanie and partner Jim Bazin of Thomaston; grandsons Joshua Beckett of Warren and Jacob Hyatt of Thomaston; and granddaughters Viviana, Nashelee, Eileen, and Beverly. She leaves behind several special cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and lifetime friends. An enduring friendship with Jane and Paul Crawford of Gorham, Maine, was always dear to her heart. | 5025 | OLD TOWN - Albert Maglorie Pelletier, 88, went home to be with Jesus; and his precious wife, Maxine, Friday Aug. 2, 2013, after a brave battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Old Town, a son of Albert Sr. and Elizabeth (Cyr) Pelletier. He attended Old Town High School, prior to graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. Albert survived an attack by a Kamikaze pilot and earned a Purple Heart and silver star. Upon his return to Maine, he was employed for 35 years as a photographer at the University of Maine, Orono. Albert loved fishing, wood working, and being on the road, whether that be traveling or just a trip to Marden's. He enjoyed music, liked to sing and play the piano and guitar, and passed on his love of music to his family. He also had a great sense of humor. His main joy in his life was his love for his family and he enjoyed being anywhere they were, whether to lend a hand with a project or just be in their company. This is when he was the happiest as family meant everything to him. He is survived by sons, Frank Dumond and wife, Gerri, Richard Dumond, Michael Pelletier and wife, Nancy, and Winston Young; daughter, Laura Viner and husband, Jimmy; grandchildren, Troy, Todd, Frank-Albert, Joshua, Kenny, Tammy, Mikey, Hannah, Danny, Kristie, Cory, David, Naomi and Sarah; 14 great-grandchildren; and brother, Ronald and wife, Ruby. He was predeceased by his wife Maxine. Interment with military honors will be at Jonathan Eddy Cemetery, Eddington. | 5026 | OLD TOWN - Alberta Carlow Stevens, 90, wife of the late George “Bud” Stevens, passed away on April 17th, 2014. She was a graduate of Old Town High School, and a dedicated and wonderful homemaker all of her 67 years of married life to Bud. Her life was centered around her family which consisted of two sons, Rusty and George “Buddy” Stevens, 5 grandsons, and 12 great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Congregational Church of Milford where she served as a Sunday school teacher for 32 years. Her most enjoyable times were spent at the Steven’s Family Camp on Cold Stream Pond in Enfield with her ever growing family. Activities she loved included fishing, climbing Mount Katahdin, canoeing, and golfing. She loved to entertain her family by cooking wonderful meals at home as well as at camp. Her husband of 67 years, George ”Bud” Stevens predeceased her in 2008. She is survived by her two sons, George “Buddy” Stevens Jr. and his wife Janet of Westborough Mass., Brian “Rusty” Stevens and his wife Vicky of Cape Elizabeth, ME; 5 grandsons, Mark, Jon, Chris, Scott and Sean Stevens; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Orisa O’Keefe, and Edna Bolen; and one brother, Richard Carlow. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 12pm at the First Congregational Church in Milford in the sanctuary followed by refreshments in the activity room. | 5027 | OLD TOWN - OLD TOWN - George "Bud" Allen Stevens Sr., 87, beloved husband of Alberta Carlow Stevens, went to be with the Lord, Oct. 6, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. Bud was the son of Ora B. and Rose Allen Stevens, born Dec. 8, 1920, in Old Town. He graduated from Old Town High School in 1939 and served in the Army Air Force for two years. Bud was an active member of First Congregational Church, Milford, where he sang in the choir and served as a deacon. He was the yard superintendent at Diamond International until his retirement in 1982. Throughout his life, he was active in the Boy Scouts as Scout Master of troop 72 in Great Works. One of his joys was working at Leonards Mill, Bradley, as a bateau tour guide. Bud loved the outdoors. He enjoyed his camp at Cold Stream Pond and recreation with his family which included walking, fishing, bike riding, canoeing, golf and mountain climbing. At the age of 80, Bud accomplished the climbing of Mount Kahtadin to the top. Bud was predeceased by his mother and father; sister, Evelyn Harris; and his longtime friend, Perry O'Keefe. He is survived by his wife of 67 years; his two sons, Buddy and his wife, Janet, of Westboro, Mass., and Rusty and his wife, Vicky, of Cape Elizabeth; his five grandsons and their wives, Mark, Jon, Chris, Scott and Sean; and seven great-grandchildren, Danny, Eric, Katlyn, Meghan, Emily, Timothy and Linley. Bud was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and a good Christian man. A visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. For those who wish to attend the committal service for Bud, please meet 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home when we will process to Lawndale Cemetery. | 5028 | OLD TOWN - Orisa O'Keefe, 96, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Orono Commons with her family by her side. She was born on October 8, 1922 the daughter of Everett Carlow and Verna (Davis) Carlow. Orisa graduated from Old Town High School, Class of 1941. She married her high school sweetheart, Percy O'Keefe, in June of that same year. They had a loving marriage of 62 years before his death in 2002. After living in Portland for a couple of years they returned to Old Town where they joined the family business, Butterfield Bottling Company-S&OK soda. She served in various capacities there, primarily as office manager. Together they had one child, Donna O'Keefe King, who is married to Geoff King of Old Town. She loved Geoff as a son. She adored her two grandchildren, Amanda King of Old Town and Brad King of Natick, MA. They gave her tremendous joy. She loved the Lord and was a member of United Baptist Church. Orisa had many qualities and interests including love of family, always lending a helping hand, love of children, a faithful prayer warrior, crocheting, quilt making, and sharing her delicious cooking. She was especially known for her fudge. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by one brother, Herbert Carlow, and four sisters, Etta Paine, Maxine Pelletier, Alberta Stevens, and Edna Bolen. She is survived by one brother, Richard Carlow. We will miss her caring ways and faithful presence. Her love and lessons will forever be a part of us. The family wishes to thank Orono Commons for the wonderful and compassionate care given to Orisa. Carol was born in Hamilton, Ohio, on December 21, 1935, the daughter of James Cecil Cooper and Doris (Lotz) Cooper Minter. She was educated in the Hamilton and Oxford schools. She had worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses, the last being Life Style Furniture. She also worked for Universal Transportation Services. This was her favorite position transporting her special children to and from school. Carol married William E. Sams in 1955 and three children were born to this union. On March 30, 1976, she married George F. Ondrovich in Hamilton, Ohio. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1983. Carol is survived by her sons, Steven (Shannon) Sams, Scott B. Sams Sr., and a very beloved son, Brian Bussell, all of Hamilton; one daughter, Sherry Jennings; her stepchildren, Sandy Armstrong of Trenton, Mark (Marlene) Ondrovich of Hamilton, Diana (Phil) Campbell of Hamilton and George E. Ondrovich; two very beloved granddaughters, Katie Mae and Sundown Sams of Hamilton; five grandsons, Scott B. He worked at Sears in Brockton for 44 years, where he earned the nick name Bugga and made a lasting friendship with his best friend of 47 years, Joe Messaline. A resident of East Bridgewater for most of his life, Bruce enjoyed playing horse shoes, working on and driving his car and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from which he was honorably discharged. He is survived by his daughter, Kristin Figlioli and her husband Scott of Providence, RI, his son Robert B. Ludwig, Jr., and his wife Lindsay of Bridgewater. His granddaughter Amber Ludwig and grandsons, Jack and Graham Ludwig. Dana joined the U.S. Air Force at 17, where he trained as an aircraft mechanic, and he traveled extensively overseas as part of th e flight crews. Being an aircraft mechanic served him well when he obtained his Private Pilot's License, Land and Sea. Later he joined the U.S. Coast Guard and retired from there in 1996 with a total of 33 years military time and a Korean War vete ran. Dana also earned his Captain License 500 Ton, ocean going. He piloted ships in the Gulf that serviced the offshore oil rigs in Texas and Louisiana. He was multi-talented; he built and flew his own airplane, built his own house, and could fi x anything. Dana enjoyed flying his airplanes and driving his 1930 and 1931 Model A's and enjoyed camping and hunting, he also had many shooting awards and was a Marksman. He was active right up until the end. He was a loving father and husband an d will be missed so very much. A memorial service will be held at the Bremen Union Church on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 11:00AM with a church hall gathering to follow.
