| 4060 | LifeSketch SOUTH THOMASTON – Donald James Paulsen, 86, husband of A. Betty Paulsen, died peacefully at his home with his wife and children at his side Sunday, September 30, 2018, following an extended period of declining health. Born at Thomaston, September 23, 1932, he was the son of John B. and Hilda Nelson Paulsen. While growing up in Thomaston he was educated in local schools and was a 1950 graduate of Thomaston High School. Don later earned an Associates Degree in Dairy Farming from the University of Maine. From 1952 to 1954 he served in the United States Army. Don's work experience began while as a young boy he accompanied his father, hauling coal. After quickly wearing out two toy shovels that the elder Paulsen gave his son, a real shovel was provided, which Don used loading coal. On November 5, 1959, Don purchased his South Thomaston farm with a gentlemen's agreement transaction, and in his words; "That day I began milking cows." That farm became Donald's passion where he enjoyed working the farm and maintaining that land as a working farm to this day. Don loved driving the mile to the back of his farm which is bordered by both the Keag Marsh and St. George River, and after illness stole his ability to drive, he would coerce someone to drive him for that ride daily. For more than 10 years he worked hauling cement from the Thomaston Cement Plant, owned at that time by Martin Marietta Corporation. When that company laid off most of its drivers, they kept Don going. In 1981, with his brother Richard, they began Paulsen's Brothers Transportation. The brothers traveled to West Virginia where they had negotiated a deal and, again on a handshake, drove home with two new tractors with trailers. Returning to Thomaston, they obtained local financing to pay for those rigs. That original deal created a longtime friendship between the Paulsen Brothers and their West Virginia friend. In addition to being a farmer and small businessman, Don was known as a practical joker and a poet, who often wrote and recited poetry. While operating as a dairy farm, one of Don's customers and friend, referring to the bag in which customers deposited their milk money, jokingly gave Don the nickname, 'Money Bags'. His daughter later affectionately dubbed the farm as 'Money Bags Spread'. A 33rd Degree Mason, Don was coronated in 1991. He was a member of all the Masonic Bodies and was distinguished as a Past Grand Commander of Grand Commandery of Maine; Past Grand Illustrious Master of Grand Council of Maine; Past Eminent Prior of KYCH; Past Sovereign of Red Cross of Constantine, Tamerlane Chapter; Past District Deputy Grand Lodge of Maine; Past Sovereign of Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests; Past High Priest of his local Chapter Royal Arch Masons and Past President of Masonic Temple Corporation, Rockland. Don further served his community as a Past Selectman for the Town of South Thomaston, Past Supervisor Knox / Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District, a 50 plus year member and Past King Lion of the South Thomaston Lions Club and as an active member and Past Deacon of Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church, Rockland. Other than his parents, Don was pre-deceased by the mother of his children, Shirley Ann Wooster, February 19, 2015; a grandson James M. Ross; two brothers, Harold and Ralph Paulsen and a sister, Hope Brown. He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, A. Betty Paulsen of South Thomaston; his step-mother Doris Paulsen of Jupiter, FL; his children, Donald Paulsen, II and his wife Cathy of Cushing, Tammy Benner of Thomaston, Lorraine 'Lori' Benner and her husband Steve of Warren; his step-children, Adelbert Vinal, Jr. and his wife Marilyn of St. George, David Vinal and his wife Patricia of Warren, Darlene Dudley and her husband Walter of Waldoboro; two brothers, Richard Paulsen of St. George, John Paulsen of Florida; a sister, Grace Chapman of Parkersville, West Virginia; step-sisters, Pat Ross and her husband Don of Warren, Berniece 'Bunny' McLellan and her husband James of Jupiter, Florida; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nephews, nieces and extended family members. | 4075 | LifeSketch THOMASTON - Shirley Ann Wooster, 78, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by her children at her home, Thursday, February 19, 2015. Born in Thomaston, August 3, 1936, she was the daughter of Philip R. and Lorraine L. Mank Seekins. Shirley grew up at her family's Beechwood Street, dairy & poultry farm. Her sister said when they were growing up, all four girls would climb in bed together and Shirley would tell made-up a story that would sometimes go on for hours. Even as a young girl, Shirley enjoyed doing kind acts for neighbors and friends. To this day, Shirley enjoyed making May Baskets for her entire family. She would spend months preparing them, and then the entire day delivering them. Educated in local schools, after graduating from Thomaston High School, she married Donald Paulsen. They moved to Ozark, Alabama, where they lived at what is now known as Fort Rucker. Returning to South Thomaston, they owned and operated a dairy farm where they raised three children. During that time Shirley ran a Beauty Salon in her home and never turned anyone away, regardless of the time of day. Later in life, she married Milton Wooster. Together they established Coastal Cosmetology Academy. Shirley and Milt shared a very affectionate relationship, and their love for one another yielded them much joy in life from anything and everything. Shirley was affectionately named Nanny Woo Woo, and there was never a time she didn't have someone living with her who needed a place to stay. Their doors were always open to anyone in need. She enjoyed oil painting and writing poetry. Her favorite times were those spent with her family, just getting together to share laughter and stories. You could always count on something cooking in the oven, as she loved to cook. Locally, she was famous for her donuts and oatmeal bread. As a young mother, Shirley served as a 4-H leader, teaching children to cook and sew. Later she served as a Deacon of the Federated Church of Thomaston and was an active member of the American Legion Post No. 37, Thomaston. Her faith in God provided strong guidance throughout her life. Her family said that words could never capture the beauty and serenity of this amazing and beautiful woman. Other than her parents, Shirley was pre-deceased by her husband Milton in 2009; a grandson Jamie Ross in 2008; as well as two brothers, Harlow Mank and Philip Seekins. She is survived by one son, Donald J. Paulsen, II and his wife Cathy of Cushing; two daughters, Tamala Benner of Rockland, Lorraine 'Lori' Benner and her husband Steve of Warren; a brother, Wayne Seekins and his wife Claire of Thomaston; three sisters and their husbands, Doris and Paul LaClaire of Warren, Faye and Bill Warford of Thomaston, Sandra and Fred Carroll of Washington; five grandchildren, Misty Link of Cushing, Ashley Benner and her companion Michael Beal of Warren, Craig Benner and his wife Vanessa of San Diego, CA, Chelsey Doughty and her husband Travis of Cushing, Dustin Benner of Thomaston; seven great-grandchildren, Logan Link, Noah Ross, Owen Ross, Jace Doughty, Briella Doughty, Ava Beal, Cole Beal; two special children she considered as grandchildren, Dylan Williams and Aaliyah McDonald; her best friend and cousin, Janet Sprague of Wiscasset; two step-sons, David Wooster and his wife Nancy and daughter Katie, Dennis Wooster and his daughter Amy all of Warren; as well as too many friends to mention. The family would like to say a heartfelt thank you to family and friends for all the love, support and help during this difficult time. A special thank you to George Hacklin for his affectionate care-giving. A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at 3:00 P.M., Friday, February 27, 2015, at the Federated Church of Thomaston, Eight Hyler Street. The Reverend Vanessa Colesworthy will officiate. | 4080 | LifeSketch Von Find a Grave: John A. Bowers, 54, verstarb unerwartet am Abend des 6. Juni 2011. | BOWERS, John Arthur (I44327)

| 4100 | LifeSketch WINCHENBAUGH, - Nelson G. on Monday Sept. 27, 1943, Nelson Gardner Winchenbaugh succumbed to an untimely death. Born at Waldoboro, Maine, Sept. 15, 1915, he was the only son of Perley C. and Sadie B. Winchenbaugh. His boyhood was happy. He attended the public schools of Waldoboro and grew up with a wide circle of friends. On Oct. 31, 1936, he married Grethel Pitcher who survives him. Theirs was a happy union and together they enjoyed life at its best. Always amitious and persevering, he worked constantly. At the time of his death he was caretaker of the estate of Mrs. John Deaver as well as a lobster fisherman and clam digger. Now here during his 28 years of life was there an inkling of the great tragedy which shocked the community and caused his death. Always a great lover of the sea he was an ardent fisherman the year around. On this fatal Monday he went out as usual to haul his lobster traps. He did not return at the time he should. Instead his empty dory was found. Fisherman, relatives and friends dragged the river for two days and on the eve of the second day he was found. Funeral services were held at his home in South Waldoboro, Friday Oct. 1, 1943. The many floral tributes showed the high esteem in which he was held by all who knew him. Besides his wife and parents he is survived by one sister, Evelyn Simmons. Waldoboro Press: Oct. 7, 1943.
