Date: April 2019
THOMASTON – Beatrice M. Keizer, 100 ½, died suddenly and unexpectedly, April 19, 2019, on Good Friday, just fourteen hours after returning home after a wonderful family gathering the prior evening.
She was a beloved mother and her children said, "their lives would never be the same". It would be impossible to count the many people she has welcomed into her old country home, including the many friends of her children who often spent the night. She was a wonderful cook and recently mentioned how she missed making those lemon pies, Nissua coffee cake and cheese cakes. Her children remembered when they were younger, coming home from school and having their Mother's homemade goodies.

She was waiting for good weather to come so she could get out on her porch. But…., she said she was not looking forward to seeing the new rock piles growing in sight of her back yard. She had lived in this same house since she was sixteen years old and didn't want to be anywhere else. She loved driving and did not like eventually giving up her car however, this gave her the chance to spend more time with her daughter, Polly. They enjoyed many outings together over the years, and Bea had recently informed Polly all of the places and people she wanted to visit over the summer.

Bea was an avid lover of animals. She was always quick with a story from years ago, when Clayt and Polly were younger. She loved her dear blind Siamese cat "Su-kai", who she reminisced about often. She especially loved visiting with her great-granddaughter Desirea, to whom she passed on her love of animals. She loved to see all the animals and was never shy about kissing and snuggling ALL the pets, no matter how big or small. Her love of animals reflected her sweet and loving demeanor. She could never understand how anyone could say "stupid animals", and said she knew many animals who were smarter than most people she met.

She always loved having her family stop by to visit, which they did regularly. Her grandson Brian stopped by almost daily, bringing her sandwiches and pizza's. She also looked forward to Sunday night pizza dinners with her son, Clayty and daughter-in-law, Bette. On occasion, daughter Polly would join them as well. She always commented how every pizza was the prettiest pizza she had ever seen. Bea enjoyed having her great niece Pearl Seekins come to visit weekly, as well as her friends Jane Sprowl, Marion Martin, Judy Meklin and niece, Kay Sylvester.

She loved having Brian over to take care of her beloved bird feeders. She always wanted to do it herself, but didn't mind letting him help out. She would spend hours looking out the windows at the birds and loved the delicate little hummingbirds, waiting their arrival every year. Her plants and birdfeeders were always a source of joy and another excuse for her beloved grandson to stop by. In the past 5 ½ months she enjoyed holding her newest great-great grandchild, Levi Ezra York and loved his blue eyes.

Bea always took pride in the flower gardens, vegetable gardens and lawns she kept. In more recent years she was pleased to have her grandson Brian, help with the flower gardens, grandson Jeff, help with the vegetable gardens and her son Clayt, mow her lawn. Bea's favorite flowers from her garden were peonies and she loved to make beautiful bouquets for family and friends.

Bea was a longtime active communicant of St. Peters Episcopal Church in Rockland. For many years she loved serving as Altar Guild Coordinator, beginning with Father Kenyon and continuing with several Priests that followed at St. Peters. She enjoyed the Thursday Guild meetings and lunch and was particularly pleased to be visited weekly by the ladies from St. Peters', who brought communion and readings.
She was also an Emeritus member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah's Lodge in Thomaston.

Born in Brandon, VT, October 7, 1918, Bea was the daughter of Chauncy, Sr. and Eva M. Rogers Clark. She attended local schools.

Other than her parents, Bea was pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Clayton E. Keizer, Sr. in 1995; her beloved son David Keizer in 1983, and son-in-law John O. Lantz, Jr. in 2015; two beloved grandsons, Jeffrey York in January of this year and Daren Keizer; three siblings, Herbert Clark, Marian Clark and Chauncey Clark, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Pauline York Lantz of Port Clyde; her son Clayton E. Keizer, Jr. and his wife Bette of Cushing; her sister Elizabeth Howland of Brandon, VT; nine grandchildren, Kevin Keizer, Brian York, Sherry Ripley, Jamie Keizer, Kimberly Moore, Sal Keizer, Lisa Garrison, Heather Keizer, Michael Tripp; 18 great-grandchildren, Robbie Keizer, Christoffer Keizer, Cody Myers, Aleyah Keizer, Caleb Keizer, Andrew McLain, Landon Garrison, Desirea York, Keith York, Hannah Moore, Zachary Moore, Kelsie Smith, Dakota Keizer, Amiah Keizer, Daren J. Smith, Lilly, Landon and Ophelia Tripp; two great-great grandchildren, Emily Sykes and Levi E. York, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 10:00 to 11:00 am, Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 am.

Anstelle von Blumen bittet die Familie um Spenden in Bettys Gedenken an: Donate Life at New England Donor Services, 60 First Ave., Waltham, MA 02451.

Robert Milton Jones

February 1, 1931 - December 28, 2020

ROCKPORT – Robert M. Jones, Sr., (Bob), 89, passed away peacefully at the Sussman House in Rockport, December 28, 2020.

Born in Union, February 1, 1931, he was the only child of Miles L. and Lois Hay Jones. Bob grew up in Union and attended local schools before joining his father in the logging industry. It was said he could load a train car with pulp wood faster than anyone in his day!

Bob married Lucille Quin on April 20, 1951. He was drafted into the Army in 1953 and served at Fort Bragg, North Carolina as a tank driver. He was later transferred to Fort George G. Meade in Maryland where Lucille was able to join him. They made life long friends during that time. The couple returned home in 1955 and he was honorably discharged in 1961.

Lucille and Bob made their home in Rockport and raised their two children, son Robert, Jr. (Bobby) and daughter, Barbara. Their family home was a warm and comforting gathering place for all, and many happy memories were shared over the years. Bob loved family camping trips, snowmobiling, and working in the woods gathering firewood while his children built forts. A favorite family ritual included a ride into the woods to gather fir boughs to bank their home every fall. As his family grew, he happily welcomed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a loving grandfather, never too busy to help out with their projects and was always happy to offer rides in his golf cart around his home.

Bob worked several years at the Camden Tannery, before joining his good friend, Jack McCormick's business, as a heavy equipment operator. In his later years, he worked as the greenskeeper at Megunticook Golf Club in Rockport. He had a lifelong love of the woods and the land surrounding his home. He loved a manicured lawn and enjoyed their beautiful flower gardens. Bob and Lucille had many well-loved and devoted pets over the years. His little dog "Angel" was especially devoted and was even able to spend time with him at the Sussman House during his final days.

Bob has now passed on to join his late son, Bobby, his late parents, and all the family and friends who sadly left this world before him.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lucille; his daughter, Barbara Peabody and her husband Tim; a daughter-in-law, Theresa Jones; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; as well as his extended family and many friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A graveside service and family gathering will take place in the spring at Rockville Cemetery, and will be announced at a later date.

ROCKLAND – Bruce Edward Gamage, Sr., 91, died Friday, June 23, 2017, at the Knox Center for Long Term in Rockland.

Born in Rockland, April 6, 1926, he was the son of John E. and Bernice Savage Gamage. He was educated in local schools.

At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, to serve the country he loved. A machine gunner in a Sherman tank, he served under General George Patton. He fought hard in the Battle of the Bulge along with his two brothers Richard and John, while his brother Milton had 56 bombing missions over enemy territory. They all returned home.

Following WWII, he married the love of his life Frances Robishaw of Rockland and together they had three children, Bruce, Nancy and Ann. Frances passed away in 1972 during open heart surgery.

After her death, he found love again and married Christine Mank Makie. This union brought six additional children into his life that he loved and fathered. Christine passed away in 2009.

He was blessed at the end of his life to have the friendship and companionship of Leatrice Gamage. Together they enjoyed playing cards, attending family functions, and working auctions.

Bruce first worked in a shipyard, a Gamage family tradition, under the supervision of his father John and brother Elliot, both Master Shipbuilders. He was always willing to do whatever it took to provide for his family and had multiple jobs including selling insurance, driving taxi, cutting wood, working at the Rockland Fire Department, and spending 15 years as a Rockland Police Officer. After retiring from the police force he and his wife Christine, opened a used furniture store on Pleasant Street, called the Bruce and Chris Shop. They later closed that business and moved to Florida for a few years, before eventually returning home.

His interests were many, including hunting and fishing in his early years, playing cards, working his son's auctions, going to the casino, and telling jokes. He especially loved golf and spent hours at the Rockland Golf Club where he met some of his closest friends. It would be an understatement to say that Bruce was a passionate Red Sox fan.

Other than his parents and wives, Bruce was pre-deceased by one sister Edna Willis; six brothers, Milton, Richard, Carl, Ernest, Elliot and John; his daughter, Nancy Beverage and step-daughter, Lynne Haskins.

He is survived by one son, Bruce Gamage, Jr, and his wife Becky of Rockport; one daughter, Ann Marie Orne of Thomaston; his son-in-law, Edward Beverage of North Haven; seven grandchildren, Bruce Gamage and his wife Susan Oliver of Rockland, Wendy Gamage Jacques and her husband Robert of Warren, Jennifer Mazurek and her husband Richard of Rockland, Morgan Mayo of North Haven, Desiree Mayo of Hampden, Ansel and Alexandria Orne of Rockland; nine great-grandchildren, Joseph Nelsen, Braden Gamage, Nicholas and Alexis Mazurek, Lydia, Sydney and Aliza Gamage, Tobe Sargent and Isabelle Adams; one great-great granddaughter, Brooklynn Gamage; his step-children, Alan Haskins, Roxanne and Ray Seader of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Rhonda Collins and her companion Brian Kincaid of Stuart, FL, Duane Makie of Warren, and James Makie of Cushing, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was truly loved and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at the Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, where a funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 28th. Mr. James W. Brannan, Esquire, will officiate.
