Most of all, Carla enjoyed spending time with friends and family whether she was playing cribbage, at a family cookout, cheating at board games or playing cards The Brat always found a way to make it fun. | 3920 | LifeSketch From Find a Grave: John A. Bowers, 54, passed away unexpectedly on the evening of June 6th 2011. Born in Damariscota on January 28, 1957, he was the son of Charles L. and Arvilla N. (Winchenbach) Bowers. John grew up in Damariscotta, attending local schools and graduating from Lincoln Academy in 1975. While at Lincoln, he began an affiliation with the school that was to have him become the President of the school's Board of Trustees this July. While a student there, he played varsity soccer, basketball and baseball, and was a member of numerous clubs and organizations. Even years after graduating, he was a fixture at various sporting events, watching family members participate. From the early 1990's – 2006, John volunteered his time to operate the basketball scoreboard. He finally accepted a stipend for his efforts, which were promptly donated back to the school. Since the fall of 2003, he had been a trustee at Lincoln, currently serving as Vice President. He was also a member of the Executive Committee, Committee on Trustees, Facilities Committee, Finance Committee and Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee. He was a huge part of the positive changes taking place at the school, and will be sorely missed by all who were a part of those changes. John may be best known throughout the area for his tireless work at Miles Memorial Hospital, and ultimately Lincoln County Healthcare. John started working at Miles in the seventh grade mowing lawns, and during his high school years he worked weekends and nights polishing floors. He started his full time working career upon graduating from Lincoln Academy, 36 years ago, and would prove to be an invaluable asset to the hospital. Throughout the years, John had many roles at the hospital, serving as Materials Manager, Director of Facilities, and his current position, Vice President of Operations. Any renovation and construction project that took place on the Miles Campus had John working tirelessly behind the scenes to make it a reality. John will be greatly missed throughout the Lincoln County Healthcare community. John was active with the local Little League during the 1990's, serving as a coach and then secretary for the league. He also continued to play, as a member of the Hatch-Yudy's team of the Midcoast Softball League. Whether it was grammar school, high school or as an adult on the championship winning Hatch-Yudy's team, John could be found holding down first base. His wife Lisa taught him how to have FUN, traveling extensively throughout the Carribean and Mexico, often with their children Adrienne and Ryan. Many trips were taken with Tammy, Peter, Chloe and Caleb Begley. One of his most special, was his surprise 50th birthday trip to Playa del Carmen, Mexico with Lisa, Adrienne, Tim, Ryan and Chelsea. He and Lisa also traveled to Chianti, Italy with their dear friends, Rachel and Randy Williamson in 2005. He loved his time spent at their home in Nobleboro, and their time at Moxie Cove with family and friends. A very special time each year were Christmas Eves spent with Lynne, Mike, Katie, Alex and Ian, celebrating the the holiday, but above all else, celebrating family. He loved watching the Red Sox and all the New England sports teams. Above all, he loved spending time with his children and grandson, Brayden. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his brother, Charles "Chick" Bowers, in 1977. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Lisa McLaughlin Bowers of Nobleboro; two children, Adrienne Bowers Irons and her husband Tim of Nobleboro, and Charles Ryan Bowers and his wife Chelsea of Nobleboro; one grandson, Brayden William Irons of Nobleboro; his sister, Lynne Petrillo and her husband, Mike of Newcastle; as well as a nephew, Ian Bowers of Bristol; and two nieces, Katie and Alex Petrillo of Portsmouth, NH. A time of visitation was held at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home in Damariscotta on Friday, June 10th. A celebration of his life was held at St. Patrick's Church in Newcastle, on Saturday, June 11th. He was laid to rest with his brother and parents in the Hillside Cemetery in Damariscotta. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John Bowers, may be made to: Lincoln County Healthcare, Development Officer, 35 Miles Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543 or to Lincoln Academy, Development Office, 81 Academy Hill Road, Newcastle, ME 04553. | BOWERS, John Arthur (I44327)

| 3946 | LifeSketch Harlow Mank, 83, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Pen Bay Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Warren, Jan. 29, 1930, he was the son of Lubelle L. Mank. Raised by his grandparents, Addie and Burleigh Mank Sr. in Waldoboro, he worked with his grandfather on the family farm and in the woods as a child. He attended Warren schools and as an adult, furthered his education. A born and bred Mainer, Harlow was a jack-of-all trades. Over the years he worked as a cook at Moody's Diner, bus driver with Warren schools, at Dragon Cement Plant in Thomaston and as a car salesman. In conjunction with his other jobs, Harlow raised broiler chickens for Penobscot Poultry. His family said Harlow probably found most fulfillment as a carpenter/builder. He built houses, renovated apartments, and built furniture. Quietly helping many people in need, he would rather build a small house for a family, than work on a more expensive one. He enjoyed spending weekends helping his grandchildren with building projects. He also worked with his sons at Mank Brothers Garage in Warren. Driving his 1957 Chevy and 1940 Chevy Coupe around town was a favorite pastime for Harlow. For more than 20 years he drove the Union Fair Blueberry Queen Contestants in the Coronation. Many times he drove the grand marshall in the Warren Day Parade and in earlier years, participated as a clown in the parade. He also enjoyed riding his antique Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Never one to sit still, Harlow enjoyed Tuesday night Poker games, playing Beano, Saturday night dances, which he continued until recent weeks, family times at the cottage and holidays with all the family packed into his home. He was a member of the Second Congregational Church of Warren, where he participated many years in the Couples Club Minstrel Shows; the Tiger Engine Company of the Warren Fire Department and was a life member of the Warren Lodge No. 127, International Order of Odd Fellows. Predeceased by his wife Elizabeth Robinson Mank, his brother Philip Seekins Jr., and a great-grandson Kevin Emery, Harlow is survived by his long-time partner, Ruth Emery; his five children, Melody Sainio, Aleta Mank, Nola Metcalf, Kirby Mank and his wife Amy, all of Warren, Stuart Mank and his wife Bonnie of Jefferson; 10 grandchildren, Regina Gamage and her husband Joe, Shane Sainio and his wife Bonnie, Elijah Metcalf and his wife Cindy, Kyle Metcalf and her partner Mathias Hawes, Annika Metcalf and her partner Chris Anca, Lexi Mank and her partner Robert Doak, Haley Mank, Jared Mank, Sam Mank, Zachary Mank and his partner Meredith Wiemer; three great-grandchildren, Henry Gamage, Judd Gamage, Riley Johnson; his aunt Doris Paulsen of Rockland; four sisters, Doris LeClair and her husband Paul of Warren, Shirley Wooster, Faye Warford and her husband Bill, all of Thomaston; Sandra Carroll and her husband Fred of Washington; a brother Wayne Seekins and his wife Claire of Thomaston; as well as several nieces and nephews.
