He was born in Camden Maine on July 24, 1934, a son of the late Hosea Tibbetts and Alfreda Porter Tibbetts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Elizabeth Demmons Tibbetts.Charlie was a beloved father, grandfather and brother. He was a committed member of the First Baptist Church of Damascus, an avid fly fisherman, and a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.Charles is survived by one daughter, Melody T. Jones, and her husband, Eugene, of Bristol, VA; one granddaughter, Sarah Jones, and her fianc, Edward Beck, of New York City, New York, one grandson Timothy Jones, of Bristol, VA; and one sister, Joan Brahms of Belmont, Maine. The family would like to extend a special thanks to his neighbors Ed and Dana Craig, Willie Trivett, and John and Kelly Dancer, all of Damascus, VA; and to Jeannette Lear of Swanville, Maine, for providing friendship and care to Charlie during his final years.Charlie will rest in the Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, TN. Born in Maynard, son of Felix and Mary Kulevich (Gogolouska). He served as 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World. War II. Charles retired from Marlco Oil and before that he worked for Sealtest and Twin Maple Farms. Charles was a lifetime member of the Marlborough Lions where he received the Melvin Jones award. Charles enjoyed polka music and hosted a Sunday morning polka radio show on WSRO in the late 80s. He was also an avid Bruins and Red Sox fan. Charles is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Kulevich (Winchenbaugh) of Marlborough, his three daughters Charlotte Burt and husband James of Marlborough, Paula Kulevich of Marlborough, Anne Wynne and husband Matt of Marlborough, his grandson William Burt of Marlborough and his sister Phyllis Sikorsky of Palmetto, Fla.; including several nieces and nephews. | 1712 | CHARLES L. MEUSER GIRARD - Charles L. Meuser, 81, passed away on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Health Center, after a long illness. Charles was born Dec. 22, 1935, in Youngstown, the son of Walter and Jeanette (Spatholt) Meuser. Charles was a 1953 graduate of Girard High School, and went on to graduate from Westminster College. He had worked for 33 years as a customer service representative for General Fireproofing, retiring in 1992. Charles was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Ohio National Guard. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, the former Beverly Forsythe; his sisters-in-law, Beverly Baker Forsythe and Ruth Ann Forsythe; and several nieces and nephews. Private services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Blackstone Funeral Home, with Pastor Rhonda Gallagher officiating. Charles was laid to rest at Girard City Cemetery. She was born on the VN Ranch in Northern Elko County to Jake and Anna Reed, the youngest of 6 children. She married Jay Kump Sixty Six years ago on May 22, 1940. She worked as a beautician in Elko from 1941 to 1942, managed the swimming pool located near the old hot hole, then served as the Postmistress in Lee from 1943 to 1952. The couple owned and operated the Lee General Store during these years. When Jay and Charlotte moved back into Elko in 1952, Charlotte took a job at J.C. Penney. During this period, Charlotte acted as a surrogate mother to numerous young men from the area ranches that boarded at the Kump home during the school year. Her husband Jay Kump of Elko, sister Janie Reed Stanley of Tremonton, UT, survives her. children Jake (Karen) Kump, Moyal (Karen) Kump, and Marva (Jim) Santina, all of Elko, as well as grandchildren Jeff (Tania) Kump, Colette (Tim) Wickersham, Greg (Staci) Kump, Krista (Dave) Chamberlin, Casey (Brooke) Kump, Brian Kump, Mike (Kelly) Santina and Scott (Emily) Santina, 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. | 1728 | CHRISTIAN PFAFF DIES SUDDENLY Christian Pfaff of 520 Sixth street died suddenly Tuesday morning at about 9:30 o'clock following an illness of only a few minutes. Mr. Pfaff had been at Abeicht's Grocery on the corner of Sixth and Warren street and was returning to his home when he was stricken with apoplexy after he had left the store only a short distance. He died before medical assistance could be summoned living only a few minutes after he was stricken. Mr. Pfaff's death will come as a shock to his many friends, because although he has been ailing for sometime, he was able to be out as usual. The deceased was born in Bavaria, Germany, and would have been 69 years old on September first. He was the son on Mr. and Mrs. John Pfaff, both deceased. At the age of one year he came to this country with his parents and after arriving in the United States he came immediately to Marietta where he had lived ever since. He was a member of the Red Men Order and had at one time taken an active part in the work of the Organization. On February 5th, 1880, he was united in marriage to Miss Kate Bules, who survives him. Besides his widow he is survived by three children: Mrs. Robert Gossett and Irvine Pfaff, both of this city, and Edgar L. Pfaff, of Toledo, O. Surviving also are three brothers, Jacob, David and John Pfaff, all of Marietta, and one sister, Mrs. George Cook of Cincinnati. She was born in Waldoboro daughter of Reddington and Ada Hunt Sprague, and attended Waldoboro schools. Hilt lived her most of her life and in the same house for 72 years. During hear early life, she worked for the canning factory at Winslow's Mills and the button factory in Waldoboro. She was a member of teh Waldoboro Senior Citizens and was, known for her apple pies, which she continued to bake until she was 90. Her husband of 51 years, Clarence E. Hilt, died in 1979. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Marion) Overlock of Waldoboro, a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren. A private funeral will be held at Hall Funeral Home. Als Physiker und Chemiker erforschte er die Bioelektrizität. Als Mediziner machte er sich um die Pockenimpfung und die Neuordnung des Apothekenwesens verdient. Leben: Christoph Heinrich war der sechste Sohn des Geh. Oberfinanzrates Friedrich Burkhard Pfaff. Zwei seiner elf Geschwister waren Johann Friedrich Pfaff und Wilhelm Andreas Pfaff, die ebenfalls Universitätsprofessoren wurden. Von 1782 bis 1793 besuchte er die Stuttgarter Karlsakademie, an der er in den letzten drei Jahren Medizin studierte und sich mit Georges Cuvier befreundete. 1793 schrieb er die Dissertatio inauguralis medica de electricitate sic dicta animali. Unabhängig von Alessandro Volta stellte er eine Spannungsreihe auf. Ende 1793 immatrikulierte er sich an der Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, wo er bei Georg Christoph Lichtenberg, Friedrich Benjamin Osiander und Samuel Hahnemann hörte. | 1740 | Christopher was the son of Michael Newbert (1766-Feb. 14, 1864) and Catherine "Keaty" Mink (May 28, 1770-April 29, 1846) who were married on Oct. 23, 1791 by Jacob Ludwig, Justice of the Peace, in Waldoboro. Michael was a farmer born about 1760 to Christoph and Mary (Gross) Newbert. Michael and Catherine were buried on their farm on the southeast side of Augusta Rd. , North Waldoboro. Neither gravestone could be found, although they are recorded in the Waldoboro Historical Society. Although Christopher's gravestone gives the year of death as 1880, Christopher was still alive when the census was taken on June 3, 1880, and was 84 years old. It is likely the stone is in error and that he died in 1884 when he would have been 88 years old. | 1746 | City man’s body found in Portland Charles Mason was known to police in Lewiston, where he often would panhandle change. By Mark LaFlamme Staff Writer PORTLAND – A man whose body was found floating in Portland Harbor Saturday morning was identified Monday as a Lewiston resident well known to police in this area. Investigators believe 50-year-old Charles Mason may have drowned after a night of drinking with a group of other people near the water off Fore Street. Mason’s body was found floating near a rocky section of the shore at about 9:45 a.m. Saturday in front of the Portland Yacht Club. Police and fire crews used a boat to retrieve the body. The identity of the dead man was not known until Monday. Police in Portland said Mason was the third homeless man to die in that city in recent weeks. A 51-year-old was found dead in a wooded area in mid-March and a 52-year-old was found dead days later. Mason had extensive criminal histories and both Lewiston and Portland, according to court records. In Lewiston, he had been arrested dozens of times on charges of disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, obstructing public ways, theft and drinking in public. Mostly, police said, Mason would hang around the front of stores trying to panhandle change from customers going in and out of the stores. In court records, Mason listed addresses on Horton, Howe and Pine streets although he was mostly frequently described as a local transient. His mother lives in downtown Lewiston and a brother lives in Auburn. In Portland, police said Mason had a similar criminal history. In recent years, Portland police have dealt with Mason at least 100 times. On Monday, investigators in Portland contacted Lewiston police to alert them that the body had been identified as Mason. An autopsy was performed at the Maine Medical Examiner’s Office, although no findings were released. He was born in Bremen, May 1, 1901, the son of Edward and Beulah Creamer Wood. He was a 32nd degree mason, a 50-year member of King Solomon's Lodge A.F. and A.M. of Waldoboro and a 50-year member of the Grand Lodge of Maine. he was a member of Kora Temple, Lewiston, and Consistory of Portland. He formerly was a member of a grain store in Waldoboro and Winslow's Mills for many years and he also worked at a Waldoboro Garage. Surviving is a son, Clarence W. Woodbury Jr. of Kezar Falls. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday from the Simmons Funeral Home, Warren. Spring interment will be in Waldoboro cemetery.
