- ROCKLAND — Pauline A. "Polly" Barter, 71, wife of the late Wilbert L. Barter Jr., died Friday, September 12, 2003 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, Rockport, after a long illness. Born in Waldoboro, September 17, 1931, she was the daughter of Otto A. and Wilma E. Beckett Hunt, Sr. Growing up in Waldoboro, she was educated in local schools and ultimately earned her diploma thru the SAD #5, Adult Education Program on May 29, 1981. November 27, 1954, she married Wilbert L. Barter, Jr. in Rockport.
In earlier years, she worked at H.P. Hood & Son's in Waldoboro and later with various local food processing companies. For more than 18 years, she was employed at Van Baalen Pacific Corporation and until her illness, worked as a Personal Care Attendant.
Polly was pre-deceased by her husband in 1992, a daughter Denise E. Dodge in 2000 and a brother Maynard O. Hunt in 1990.
She is survived by two sons, Paul L. Barter of Aldan, PA, Dana W. Barter and his wife Susan of Springfield, PA; three daughters, Gail Robinson of Waldoboro, Darlene Grant and her husband David of South Thomaston, Cynthia J. Barter Milano and her husband John of Aldan, PA; one brother, Otto Hunt, Jr. and his wife Pat of Waldoboro; one sister, Julia Barrett of Augusta; thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Interment will be in Achorn Cemetery, Old County Road, Rockland. (Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins on-line)
